Re: Employers Looking At Facebook...My Story
This is why I only allow my friends on facebook to see what I'm posting and why I won't accept a fb invitation from an employer if they try and add me.

Re: Employers Looking At Facebook...My Story
A guy I used to work with got fired/quit because of Facebook. He didn't talk shit about the company but he called in sick and later that day posted about how he was going to the cinema. My boss apparently checks that shit and he had a conversation with that guy resulting in him getting fired/quiting.
I don't have FB or Twitter as I'm pretty private with all that so I luckily cant get fucked over because of something I put online..

Yeah i agree with you but just previously meant that you shouldn't be forced to give a boss a show of your facebook or twitter if you ultimatley keep it private.
They can't force you can then?

Apparently, more and more companies are requiring people to give up their passwords for FB or Twitter so they can keep an eye on them. I think it's wrong, but that's just me.
I'll know more coming up here on Tuesday when I have my annual employee review. The VP and my director give me my review so we'll see how it goes. I know these reviews are a bitch, yesterday I finished about 15 of them, and then have sit-downs with all these folks next week to go over them.

It is wrong i agree. It's an invasion of privacy if you made the choice to have your pages private.
I wouldn't like some boss to have a look through my photos and judge me and my out of work stupidity.

Re: Employers Looking At Facebook...My Story
One of the reasons you have to be careful with social networks this days. FB being the biggest target all they need is your full name or email hell even number and bam there you are. Best thing to do is set everything in private have close friends/family and be careful of what you put. Social networks are meant to socialize and get to know people, but now adays in the work area it can be a risk of getting fired.

Re: Employers Looking At Facebook...My Story
Getting rid of my FB was the best thing I ever did.
Although, I had my bosses on there and they're cool as fuck. As long as you don't go spouting any secret projects then it's whatever.

Re: Employers Looking At Facebook...My Story
I can understand being a dumb fuck and posting that you called in sick to go see a movie or hang with friends. If you are that stupid to post about it on a social networking site, you deserve what you get for being an idiot.
People need to vent at times. Sure, you can get a diary, have your own private blog that only you can see, but, in this day and age, everything is an e-social gathering. People want to vent and get responses from their friends and family. They want that 'support'.

Re: Employers Looking At Facebook...My Story
If my company required me to give them my FB account, I'll make a 2nd one with a new email, and give them that one. I doubt it's listed as "all social media accounts".
I am NOT comfortable with anyone having access to my account- not because I post horrible things, but because of my family and friends that trust me to keep me in on privacy settings. If they wanted my IT department or boss to see all their family pics and rants, they would add them.
Do you think that your company would tell you that the guy downstairs that has access to that info quits? And that maybe you should change your info? I doubt it. And that's a scary thought.
