So I bought a pair of Beats By Dre Solo (not the wireless Solo HD ones) during Black Friday last year for like $160 and recently the top cushion more or less peeled off. They still work just as well as they did when I first had them and the loss of the top cushion isn't a big deal at all. You don't really even notice it, but now that I'm finally working and making some money I'd like to get some new ones.

I was considering the Beats By Dre Studios for $299, but I'm more or less over the BBD trend and would like to see if there are headphones out there that will offer me a better experience when it comes to listening to music and such than the BBD lineup. I've heard good things about the Sennheiser brand as well as some Sony and Bose headphones. Keep in mind I do still want something somewhat stylish as I will obviously be using these when I travel so nothing too out there in the looks department. Just don't want to drop $299 on Dre Beats if there's something better out there for less so if any audio experts or just anyone with experience with other headphones has any suggestions feel free to drop them.

Edit: oh and I've just come across the Dre Beats "Mixr" headphones for the first time. Any good?

Beats suck. For a $150 get the Audio Technica ath-m50s. I've been using these bad boys for all my studio, live and personal needs for 2 years. Still haven't heard anything better yet.

Anyway, you can never go wrong with a good pair of Sennheiser. Bose are good too, but only if you have the money. Your best bet is just to go into a shop where you can try them out, but seriously don't go for the Beats. They'd be selling for less than half the price if they didn't have that look and that name attached to them.

Oh and obviously, never the Skullcandy. Unless you like buying your headphones three months at a time.

Sound quality is awesome and never had any real problems so far.
