Re: Serial Killers With Popular Names Overrated?
We're American. American lives > Anyone else's, in the media. I'm sure it's the same in most countries. Therefor, killing fellow Americans, especially in gruesome or odd ways will always trump in the media. Richard Kuklinski killed a ton of people, but being they were "business" killings he's barely acknowledged. It's not the numbers, but more of the story behind each killing and what crazy shit they've done to the victims, both before and after the murder. There are numerous Russian/Soviet serial killers with tremendous bodyrates, but they hardly make a blip.
Guys like the BTK Killer aren't well known even with a high bodycount AND length of time simply because he just killed. The ones that eat, mutilate or even have sex with the corpses is what gets headlines. Modern day sideshow, just with dead people involved.
