I personally accept that the burden of proof is on the argument's proponent and most people I have seen who say Osama bin Laden wasn't killed during the raid are making arguments from ignorance, which isn't a good argument.
What is so ignorant about wanting to see proof?
The exact reason given was that the photos may spark reprisals from insurgents. What about the military releasing videos of the bombing of Al-Zarqawi? What about the bloodied up photos of the deceased sons of Hussein? The slaughter of suspected terrorists by an AC-130 gunship or predator drone that turned out to be innocent, unarmed civilians?
How is a photo of a dead Bin Laden any worse? Because he was a leader?
The reasons why I am against a lot of what the government does is either a) It is against my personal beliefs, or b) There is actually evidence that the government is lying.
While you are correct in insinuating that there is no proof that the government is lying here, there is also no reason to believe that they are giving us the truth in its entirety. We're so open book about releasing details of attempts at freeing reporters and aid workers from Taliban captivity, what with details about Rangers and SEALS air-assaulting to the bottom of a mountain and working their way up to secure overwatch positions and fire bases with sound suppressed snipers firing from helicopters like was the case in the Linda Norgrove raid, why not this? Why not Bin Laden?
Now if you want to talk about 9/11 having been known by the government, then are tons of reports already with the most common one being that the government didn't take the threats seriously, so really that isn't questionable.
I didn't say anything about 9/11.
If you want to say the government knew where Osama bin Laden was a lot of times, I would have a lot less problems with that argument than those who argue he was already dead/is still alive.
Also I don't see a motive, which is another problem. People saying Libya needed covered up, how would that be if it was common knowledge what was going on in Libya. People saying Obama needed votes, it would of been better for him to have done it around now instead then, not last year.
I think that they knew where he was...6 feet under somewhere like he has been since his death from Marfan Syndrome 11 years ago.
Edit: For all the people wondering why we don't view the government as a reliable source of info, just look at the Pat Tillman situation. It took a long time for people to uncover what really happened.
Excellent point. Excellent, excellent point.
I like how the third photo is absent of any gray hair on the beard whatsoever, although in many a Arab culture, a full, gray beard is a sign of wisdom and men are not to groom their beards for it is a sign of vanity. I guess he die...I meant DYED his beard.
