Re: I hate alcohol
Honestly, I've been drinking since I was 16, mostly beer and occasionally, liquor but mainly if I'm in the club.
Whats weird is how alcohol is legal nationally, despite:
One person being killed every half hour due to alcohol related crashes
Approximately 16,000 people are killed a year from alcohol related crashes
Every other minute, a person is seriously injured in an alcohol related crash
Over 40% of fatal automobile accidents are alcohol related
Sad but it's true and I'm not exempt, I've driven drunk plenty of times and by the grace of God, was never involved in any accidents. With 10 years of drinking under my belt, I can pretty much maintain (except from brown liquor, it fucks me up real, real bad).

Re: I hate alcohol
Reinstate prohibition and those statistics you posted will look like nothing compared to the crime we'll see. Bootlegging and the violence that comes along with it makes alcohol related crime look like shoplifting*. I think that prohibition would turn the United States into a Mexico type atmosphere, ruled by the intimidation of the powerful drug lords.
*Not meaning to diminish the seriousness of drunk driving, which is a very, very bad decision 99.9% of the time.

Re: I hate alcohol
^I think what you posted is the exact reason alcohol hasn't been prohibited.
Not only that but the government makes money off it. Whereas with marijuana, they don't really see profit off it like they do alcohol. And, if it goes back to the "bootlegging" days, the alcohol would be more potent and have a higher volume than the current shit does.
If a moonshine is just a sample, please don't prohibit alcohol. That shit is like the devil's water.

Re: I hate alcohol
There's no way there would ever be enough support to get alcohol banned in the US. To make it national I believe you would need to make it a Constitutional Amendment since it's not something that the federal government has a say over. I guess they could ban the trade of imported beer and make it illegal to trade across states but they wouldn't be able to make it illegal for something brewed in New York to be illegal in New York without an Amendment. We have way too many people that drink regularly to ever get that to happen. Any politician that supported the bill (except for a few select places) would be booted out of office come next election.
Also it doesn't work. Banning it would just make the trade go unregulated and people would be drinking all sots of crazy stuff. It would just create a huge underground economy that the government would never be able to control.

The government should still make a nice profit from marijuana. The one thing that perplexes most people is why a dangerous substance like alcohol is made legal but a relatively tame drug like marijuana is made illegal and the law throws certain people in jail for unnecessarily long periods of time for possessing it. Marijuana still isn't completely harmless but it's nowhere close to cigarettes or alcohol.

At the least, you should be allowed to smoke marijuana at the age of 21. Makes no sense for it to be still illegal, when it can be distributed nationally, similar to oxycodone and other drugs, which may temporarily cure pain, balance out the nerves and soothe the muscles but the long term effects are as dangerous as those of alcohol & tobacco.
