I have never drank enough alcohol to get properly drunk. People do stupid shit when they are drunk. My father got almost killed at least twice. Once I watched a guy chase him with a knife. Some drunken argument had escalated. Thank god he was a fast runner or he might be dead. I wonder if the knife guy would have come for my mom and myself next if he had caught him. I don't understand why anyone would voluntarily drink so much that they lose control. What if you get in a fight? What if you kill someone? What if you rape someone? What if you drive over someone on your way home? Have fun spending half your life in jail because you drank that poison and did something that you would have never done otherwise.
It's kind of hard to take something like this seriously when you admit that you've never been drunk. While I've never blacked out from drinking too much I've been really drunk quite a few times. I don't have the urge to do anything violent. I'm not a violent person and I a few beers doesn't make me violent. I've never considered driving either. It's engrained into my head to not drink and drive so I don't. Granted I usually hand my keys over to someone that isn't drinking as soon as I can but I've never even come close to drinking and driving.
Tastes bad and has negative effects on your body.
Changes your mental state (temporarily), as if it will somehow help you, while it actually harms you in so many ways.
So yeah, of course I was overdoing it, you can debate, but those 3 things are just enough for me to be convinced that it is bad.
1. Not always. Hard Lemonade-delicious. Hard Cider- Delicious. Some beers and mixed drinks- Delicious. Yeah drinking straight rum will taste terrible or cheap beer but there are some really good tasting alcoholic drinks out there.
2. Fair point.
3. I don't consider this a negative. I'm a pleasant person drunk. I don't get angry or sad for no reason when I'm drunk. When drunk I just have a good time with friends for the most part.
I'm having a hard time understanding why people don't seem to get the fact that getting drunk is a pleasant experience. Just don't go overboard and you remember everything. Drink a lot of water before going to bed and or some Gatorade and you'll feel fine in the morning. It's not an unpleasant experience.
Then there's also the social factor that drinking has (I can only speak for American culture here). It's hard to really explain it but it's just what you do. Sharing a beer with my dad once I was old enough to was a pretty cool experience as was doing the same thing with grandpa. Then there's the whole idea of having some beers with friends. It holds a significance in American culture. It's what people do. Probably a terrible way of describing it but there is something there that's engrained into our culture.
