Penderyn single malt from Wales is the absolute shit. Some Bushmills ones are great too.

So yeah, of course I was overdoing it, you can debate, but those 3 things are just enough for me to be convinced that it is bad.
The positive health effects from alcohol are minimal at best and pale in comparison to all of the detrimental effects.

I hate alcohol too. Unfortunately for me, I'm at the stage where those I hang with enjoy talking about how drunk they got last weekend and how much of an idiot they made out of themselves because it's the "cool thing" when you're in your late teens.

However, I love alcohol. I thoroughly enjoy getting absolutely bombed. I don't mind blacking out, between friends, text messages, and my tweets I can piece together my night. Plus I cannot puke from drinking and I'm genetically immune to hangovers.

i rarely drink i'm to into my fitness and i do have a social life, i will go out and drink every few of months, or for special occasions, so about 6-8 times a year, and when i drink i don't get out of my mind, i just have social drinks because i like to have a good time and remember it and not feel like crap the next morning. Puts me out the norm but who cares i'm enjoying life.

Lol I dont hate alcohol just dont drink anymore. After a night in Vancouver with my gf and her best friend last year I cannot remember I have not drank anything. We were drinking Bacardi 151 mixed with orange soda or pineapple juice. All I know is I woke up the next morning with sleeping clothes not knowing how I put them on and my clothes from the night before in a tub full of water because I puked all over them. Awesome amazing night though.

FYI, I had to grab a cold one right before typing this.

I enjoy having a beer or some bourbon once in a while, I don't drink one every day and when I do drink I don't get knock-down, drop-dead drunk. That being said, it is perfectly OK to have one watching the game, at dinner, or just vegging on the computer like I am right now with everyone else in bed.

I personally find it funny when people just have to get smashed. Hey, if you want to kill your own brain cells that's entirely on you.

I do drink, but never to excess.

I don't get people who feel the need to get completely slaughtered when they go out. I don't want to sound judgemental, but if you can't have fun without alcohol, then you need help.

I haven't gotten into world whiskies yet as the selection around here isn't great and my work schedule makes it hard for me to order online. I definitely can get into a few of the Bushmills expressions when I'm craving Irish whisky, much better than any Jameson expressions I've had at the same cost range. As far as Irish whisky, my favorite thus far has to be the cask strength Redbreast 12 year old.

On the subject of mixed drinks, since many are mentioning them, the idea doesn't appeal to me. A lot of my enjoyment while drinking comes from noting the differences between different brands and styles. I can't imagine that rum and coke would taste any better than just normal coke, but I guess it helps you get drunk if you don't like the taste of alcohol.

I don't understand why anyone would voluntarily drink so much that they lose control. What if you get in a fight? What if you kill someone? What if you rape someone? What if you drive over someone on your way home? Have fun spending half your life in jail because you drank that poison and did something that you would have never done otherwise.
It's kind of hard to take something like this seriously when you admit that you've never been drunk. While I've never blacked out from drinking too much I've been really drunk quite a few times. I don't have the urge to do anything violent. I'm not a violent person and I a few beers doesn't make me violent. I've never considered driving either. It's engrained into my head to not drink and drive so I don't. Granted I usually hand my keys over to someone that isn't drinking as soon as I can but I've never even come close to drinking and driving.

So yeah, of course I was overdoing it, you can debate, but those 3 things are just enough for me to be convinced that it is bad.
1. Not always. Hard Lemonade-delicious. Hard Cider- Delicious. Some beers and mixed drinks- Delicious. Yeah drinking straight rum will taste terrible or cheap beer but there are some really good tasting alcoholic drinks out there.

2. Fair point.

3. I don't consider this a negative. I'm a pleasant person drunk. I don't get angry or sad for no reason when I'm drunk. When drunk I just have a good time with friends for the most part.

I'm having a hard time understanding why people don't seem to get the fact that getting drunk is a pleasant experience. Just don't go overboard and you remember everything. Drink a lot of water before going to bed and or some Gatorade and you'll feel fine in the morning. It's not an unpleasant experience.

Then there's also the social factor that drinking has (I can only speak for American culture here). It's hard to really explain it but it's just what you do. Sharing a beer with my dad once I was old enough to was a pretty cool experience as was doing the same thing with grandpa. Then there's the whole idea of having some beers with friends. It holds a significance in American culture. It's what people do. Probably a terrible way of describing it but there is something there that's engrained into our culture.
