I don't understand why this even needs to be made into a law.

Lets focus on getting some fucking jobs back in this country and worry less about fat people drinking big gulps and gay people wanting to get married.

If you're complaining about the actual law making process and what politians should be spending time on then good for you but thats hardly what people are complaining about. Take this thread as a minute case study. You have people whinging that

a) they want a big ass soda
b) it could potentially lead to further laws restricting the freedoms of citizens of America.

Point b is plain retarded.

But they're worried about soft drinks? Really?

I don't think that people are meeting it with attitudes because it's supposedly enacted to benefit their health. It's just that they chose something so minute and unpretentious compared to every example I listed above. Who is the government to tell me how much Coke or Pepsi I can consume (even though I consume neither, and do not eat fast food regularly)? I'm pretty sure I pay my own insurance and don't leach off of government health care.
There are laws and legislations on who can buy alcohol and cigarettes. Now i'm not sure exactly how it is in America but i'll use Australia as an example here b/c i know it.

For alcohol; have to be 18, have to show ID, have to have completed the responsible service of alcohol in order to serve alcohol, can be declined service of alcohol if you're under the influence of alcohol.

For cigarettes; Have to be 18 to buy them, 16 to smoke them (yeah thats retarded), cannot smoke in hospitals, pubs, clubs, sports stadiums etc etc

Basically they have more restrictions on them than this ban is placing on soda.

Look at TSA. it is against the constitution to do "warrantless SEARCHES and seizures" under the 4th amendment. But hey, Americans think it is for their "safety" and as long as we allow it, it will expand to ball parks, malls, trains. All for our 'protection' right?

Oh, not that you ask but I don't even drink soda or eat kfc. So stfu when you judge strangers.
stop judging strangers. im not a bloody american. it's not my fault your nation decides to be unhealthy to the extreme that governments decide that a law on FOOD is the best way to combat overeating/drinking. no idea why this is such a big deal. it's okay, they're not going to take your precious guns, calm down.

Pathetic.
and surely you believe that it's ok for a government to tell individuals what they can and cant put in their own bodies. If someone is going to eat their way into oblivion, why the fuck does the government give more than exactly 0 fucks?

This is almost as ludicrous as the SENATE...the fucking SENATE investigating cheaters in BASEBALL.

The UK banned supersized drinks years ago, it hasn't really led to a snowball affect of the loss of freedom.

I never even argued this.

Read my post again. I said the AMOUNT of alcohol, cigarettes, or cheeseburgers.

i can't understand this mindset.

a.) nobody is TELLING you what you CAN'T consume. it's a size ban, not a drink ban.
b.) larger sizes can be purchased at your local grocery.
c.) obesity is a serious problem in america that has resulted in medical costs of over $140 billion (2008 statistics (pdf file)).

And how many of those PAID FOR THEIR OWN HEALTH INSURANCE? I can see limiting what the public can or can't consume if there was a national healthcare plan, but fuck them if they think they're going to limit what I can consume when I pay for my own shit. (If I lived in NYC)

It's always those outside the US making the condescending commentary on anything occurring in the States. Is it the perceived arrogance of the nation that drives the Aussies / Brits / Dadgum Foreigners to poke fun & feign superiority or is it just plain old boredom?

Of course there aren't many stories posted regarding other countries, outside guys getting their wangs chopped off or some emo punks roughing up a senior shopper & getting punched in the face.

No BS Rush, Snurb, '98, I'd actually like to know.
