Re: NYC passes ban on supersized sugary drinks

So what's next? NYC implementing a law against women younger than 50 staying out past 9PM to cut RAPE rates?
Wait, how about passing a law stating how much people are legally allowed to eat? That should end obesity....

Personally, I do understand their reasoning behind passing such a ban but it's still pretty stupid in the sense that it won't affect the obesity rate AT ALL. Besides, a lot if not most obese people choose to be overweight/obese with their lifestyle choices, not just their soft drink choices(not counting those with legit medical problems). Might aswell implement a new law stating that people deemed to skinny by some are not allowed to do shopping without reaching a minimum amount of calories per meal.

Good post.

Next up, you may eat fast food only once a week. No red meat with trimmings attached. Why is smoking still allowed to the tune of multiple packs a day by chain smokers?

They're watching.

Think about that. A 21 year old can buy all the alcohol he wants at once in a liquor store, go home and drink himself into a coma, but can't get a large soda at a gas station in NY. Fucking crazy.

If the govt declared a serious war on obesity and stopped giving subsidies to farms that produce all these unhealthy boxed foods and made physical fitness a priority in public schools that would be a better first step in the right direction.
oh yeah, i'm not saying this will stop people from drinking a lot of soda, nor will it solve obesity but its a step in the right direction and as i said, i'm fairly amused that something that will benefit your health is being met with the attitude that it has

In all seriousness, i'm fairly amused at people being outraged at people trying to combat obesity. Thats the hilarious thing.
That's not why people are complaining, it's because it's a useless law and won't do a thing to reduce obesity. Better things to spend time on and better legislation to pass in New York City.

Why hasn't there been a ban on the amount of alcohol you can buy? The amount of cigarettes you can smoke? Dip cans you can purchase? The amount of McDonald's hamburgers you can buy?

But they're worried about soft drinks? Really?

I don't think that people are meeting it with attitudes because it's supposedly enacted to benefit their health. It's just that they chose something so minute and unpretentious compared to every example I listed above. Who is the government to tell me how much Coke or Pepsi I can consume (even though I consume neither, and do not eat fast food regularly)? I'm pretty sure I pay my own insurance and don't leach off of government health care.

Re: NYC passes ban on supersized sugary drinks

On one hand, I don't like the government saying what people can and can't do for something like this. On the other hand, I really don't care and if it helps discourage people from super sizing, well then, that can only be a good thing.

God damnit I fucking hate fat people. I hate unhealthy people. How hard is it to not drink soda, drive past McDonalds and do thirty minutes of exercise a day?

I have no respect for fat people. NONE

Re: NYC passes ban on supersized sugary drinks

It would be one thing if the government had national health care. They'd be paying for it, therefore you'd abide by their rules. But, I pay for my insurance and I'm a relatively healthy dude. If I want a super sized soda in New York, there shouldn't be any hesitation on the part of a 7/11 employee to let me purchase one.

Well no worries then, apparently you can still buy them at 7/11.
