Re: Election Discussion Thread
I still carter was an alright guy.
Reaganomics were a horrible idea that did nothing for the people. It just gave more power to the corporations.
I mean asides from being the first republican in ages to win two terms, and technically ending the cold war (i use that very loosely), i dont get it. Why is he so great

It gave more power and money to the BUSINESS OWNERS not just corporations, which in turn allowed them to create jobs hence why Reagan still has the highest average annual percentage of jobs created over his two terms than any President in the history of the United States sans Clinton. THAT IS working for the people.
Government programs under Reagan were cut, too. He didn't cater to those looking for a handout and firmly believed, and I quote, "The best social program is a job.".

Yeah he created more jobs overseas through outsourcing. He was the one who advocated the trickle-down economic strategy that hasn't been effective ever since.

Outsourcing is just something that happens when you use free trade policies. When you can get something for cheaper without paying import/export taxes, businesses would be stupid to buy something that costs more just because it's made here. After all, they are in the business of making money first and foremost.
Regardless of Reagan's free trade, he created 16 million United States jobs while Federal revenue went sky high, a fact that cannot be disputed despite the claim that more jobs could have been made had he not laid the groundwork for free trade down the line.
I'm no Reagan fan, by the way. The guy had his drawbacks. I wasn't even alive during his Presidency and was simply answering why people liked him so much.
