The most awkward use of I have black friends ever lol

I posted it in anything section since its more about what he said than the movie itself.

Just watch the first part until he gets to the part about having black friends.

How awkward is this? And that picture LOL

"I have black friends" is a defense mechanism against the PC Nazis. That's all it is. It's not to give yourself the agency to be a racist, it doesn't make you a racist. It just means you personally feel you have an unpopular opinion that'll get you unfairly attacked by the PC Nazis. That's it.

Ooops. I said Nazis.

I'm dead.

I don't really see how this is awkward or why it needs to be a thread. Chris has always been a pretty honest and open guy, he's never shied away from sharing his life details and background in his videos. He's just explaining how he doesn't understand racism since he grew with a diverse group of friends. And it's kinda hard not to discuss racism given the themes and ideas behind Get Out.

Much ado about nothing.

It's weird seeing someone doing a review for a movie then saying hey im not a racist, I have a lot of friends of color. That part of the review is not even needed. Also I always find it weird using the term people of color is ok but colored people is bad. Its pretty much the same thing.

Maybe its just me because I watch all his reviews and during one, he goes into, oh I have a lot black friends in the middle of it, so I'm not a racist seemed out of place and random in a movie review.

This really merits a thread? The guy was commenting on how the director had times when he was the only black person in a group and he felt awkward. He was saying that he can't relate to the situation because in his neighborhood it was ethnically diverse and he had a lot of black friends, so it was rare that there was ever only one black person in a group. It's not like he said it to stop him from sounding racist, he said it to demonstrate how he struggled to relate to the situation in the movie
Laughable thread, an example of someone trying to make everything into a social justice issue. Liberals gonna liberal I guess.

This world has just flat out gone batshit crazy, especially over the last couple of years where we all seem to find meaning in shit that's just not there. For example, during the Super Bowl...for years Coke rolled out the commercial of people singing "America the Beautiful" in multiple languages and not even a peep from most people. Suddenly, it plays again this year and everyone loses their minds. People claim that there are all these hidden meanings, when in fact that's far from the case.

Same with this movie review...the guy at least is willing to be honest and admit he can't always relate to racism as he's not around it. Sometimes it's not a bad thing to just take those stances at face value. Let's be honest, there are people of all races that are racist and only want to associate with their own kind, just as there are many of us who do our best to relate to others that are different from us. That's on you whether you choose to be part of the former or the latter groups.

Not everything has to be this earth-shattering discussion, folks.

Most of this thread is pretty "cringe" to be honest lol

We seriously still trying to score "I'm Better Than You" points by saying how we know black people? lol

Doing this is actually more detrimental than helpful. You're still seeing people as being one thing or another and lumping them into pigeon-holes based on that. Really, a characteristic such as skin colour is about as relevant in distinguishing the members of your social group as height or eye colour. Imagine how weird it would be if people started being all like "Hey - I'm a good person cos I have just LOADS of left-handed friends." It's nonsense.

Treat all people equally. That should be your goal, every day. Judge people by their actions and nothing else.
It may not be easy, but it's the only way forward.

I do not blame him because if you do something the PC Nazi's do not like then they will write hit pieces on you and try to destroy your channel

ask AVGN, KSI, PewDiePie, and sargon of akkad, and JonTron

The left attacks independent thought until that person bows down to them

See, this pisses me off no end. Not all left wing people think this way, it's actually a result of authoritarian thinking which occurs on both sides of the political spectrum. What's needed is more libertarian thinking from the left since, currently, the right have a monopoly on that view.

This was a very weird movie. Very weird. A lot of interesting ideas shoved against and on top of each other because there isn't enough time to flesh them all out and of course it devolves into a generic action thriller.

I think it would have been better as a TV series than as a movie.

I'd say the latter is worse, I can understand folk who don't frequent diverse areas not having a diverse friend group. Going out of your way to be diverse is pretty creepy though. Finding friends should be natural, though "lack of interesting black people" made me laugh

I just want to throw out there that I don't have any black friends atm, so everyone can judge me as they will.

HOWEVER I am listening to Dr. Dre right now so I get all this racism stuff.

Ah, an even better response than "I have black friends" "I like Dr. Dre." Yeah, I have heard that one.

On tooic, I grew up in a town that's predominantly white, 93.09% white and 0.34% African American (according to the 2000 census). Needless to say there weren't any blacks at my schools until 7th grade when one moved here and went to my school. Didn't know him too well, different classes, different "cliques".

So yeah, I'll be real, I've never had any black friends that I hung out with regularly. Even though the percentage has likely gone up since 2000, (0.6% in 2010) the odds of me "naturally" meeting one that I have enough in common with are extremely low.
