A video posted to YouTube appears to show a woman confronting a man at Walmart for paying for his groceries with food stamps.

The video, which has quickly gone viral, shows the woman standing behind the man, who was at the checkout counter with a child.

The two had apparently already exchanged words, in front of children, as the video started.

"I put in 50 to 60-hour weeks," the man said. "I’m trying to provide for my family."

He told her to, "Deal with it, b****," and asked her to mind her own business.

"I don’t have to. It’s a free country, remember?" the woman countered. "If I’m gonna pay for all your s***, the least I can do is talk."

She argued that the government pays for food stamps by taking money out of her paycheck and wondered whether he's a "Hillary or Bernie" supporter.

The man then suggested she contact her congressman, or vote Republican, saying that he doesn't "make the rules" on food stamps.

"Yeah, you just take advantage of them like everybody else," she said.

"Well why wouldn't I? Why wouldn't I?" he said as the video concluded.

Gosh she seems like such great person to deal with on a day to day basis.

You have no idea what someone else is going through. Sure people take advantage of the system, but why just assume he is. Especially in front of his kid and hers. I can't imagine doing that to someone. Read on another site that he and his wife work full time and he works overtime and recently they had a setback and had to go on assistance. Why kick someone when they're down on the off chance that they are a fraud.

She does understand she's shopping at Wal Mart right? 60% of Wal Mart employees are on government assistance, $6.2 billion a year's worth (food stamps, medicaid, housing assistance). The stores put flyers in the break rooms telling them what they qualify for and how to get it. That's how the prices stay so low. It's corporate welfare.

She seems awful.

If the guy was healthy, out of work, and not trying to find work then he probably deserves to be insulted for being a total loser. But you don't know if that's the case when you see someone in line buying food.

I won't ever fault someone for doing what they have to do to take care of their family when they already work or try to find work to do that.

Walmart cost the tax payers BILLIONS because they pay so little most of their workers are on EBT and welfare.

being healthy and young doesnt mean shit if the jobs pay shit.

Kids are fucking expensive as hell, and maybe the guy has shitty living arrangements as well. You dont know so dont judge.

The problem with food stamps (well EBT benefits now) is that they are not distributed properly, at least in my opinion. For example I have a friend who is able-bodied and can get a higher paying job if she chooses to do so, but instead chooses to stay in a low paying job (only making a dollar above the state mandated minimum wage) because her job gives her an apartment rent-free and pays for all of her core utilities. She has a kid that's 6 and she recently got approved for food stamps last year after a couple years of trying. She is being given $475 per month in food stamps which is absolutely ridiculous for a single parent with just only one child.

Meanwhile, a neighbor of mine who has been permanently disabled for over a decade and see's her SS/disability check gets smaller and smaller with each passing year is only allotted $35 per month in food stamps, which is absurd. The system has become something of a joke and needs definite reform in my opinion.

As far as this woman, she was definitely out of line and had she accosted me in line paying for groceries with food stamps, (since I do so for my aforementioned neighbor since moving around for her is extremely difficult and I'm an authorized user on her behalf) I would have ripped her a second or maybe third asshole. I don't have time to stupid, nosy and ignorant people like her.

I mean if someone is paying for your apartment and all the utilities they are actually paying you a lot more than a dollar above minimum wage. Whatever she makes a year add a year's rent and bills on top of it all. I'll take a fairly conservative number and say that would all cost her $1,000 a month. Her job is worth an extra $12,000 a year then whatever her actual payment is.

Unless the apartment is a shit hole I don't blame her at all. She takes home probably around $20,000 a year and has no bills other than a cellphone and cable/internet. Even without the food stamps you could be doing a lot worse than her.

With the food stamps she only has to keep clothes on her and her child's back and bills for things she wants but doesn't need.

Depending on what the job is and what the apartment looks like I would consider taking a set up like that.

Idiots like her LOVE to imagine that they're paying for someone else's food when ALL they're actually contributing is something like $2-3 bucks a month (if that) for a program like this. And assuming she too is shopping at Walmart, then she's probably getting an annual tax refund which means that she's not contributing anything to this man's food stamps.

In 2012, someone making over 50k paid just $36 a year bucks towards the food stamp program ... This woman who probably lives off her husband's earnings and is in a lower income bracket herself (based on the fact that she's shopping at walmart) most definitely contributed nothing to this man's food stamps.

Too bad the guy is likely too uneducated to stand up for himself, but if I had been in line with her, I would have given her an education.

Americans have this weird concept of how the tax system works ... most of them have no idea how it works.

People like that get on my tits not all disabilities are visible. And god forbid her fat ass gets injured and forced to live on food stamps....:leo

I'd have told the nosey bitch to shut up and keep her damn nose out of my business. We have that kind of thing happen here in the UK where the media stirs up anti benefits witch hunts so those who are in need get dragged into the same net as the fucks who steal the money by lying

I've seen even worse in my hometown. A couple of days ago I was driving down a normal road and I saw a couple of cops blocking off an entire turning lane. At first we thought that it might have been an accident or something. But found out that it was just to harass a homeless guy begging for change.

It boggles the mind that it required 2 cop cars with 4 cops on government payroll to block traffic just to chase off a homeless guy from a street corner ... This isn't the first time I've seen it either.

Really? You don't think that there could be other circumstances that might lead a young family needing to use food stamps? You seriously support a mouthy woman trash talking a complete stranger in public (and in front of his kids) without knowing anything at all about his life? You'd rather see his kids go hungry? You truly are an inspirational person.

She should just keep her mouth shut because she doesn't understand the situation of the person using them.

It figures that this would happen in a Wal Mart. That place is the ruination both economically and socially of this country I swear. It moves in, forcing small business to close because they cant compete. Then it attracts the biggest scumbags in the tri-state area.

Oh thank God, I thought I'd come in here and a bunch of people would be like "tell it like it is! serves his lazy ass right!" Too much Twitter for me, I guess.

I get peoples' frustration. I used to work with this guy who was on food stamps, public housing ($15 A MONTH FOR RENT!), and still had a $200 phone bill, all the weed and booze he wanted, all kinds of expensive sports apparel, all the newest gaming consoles etc. Good guy but it did get under my skin.

But how do you solve that? A lot of people say we need to vet public aid recipients more strictly, including drug testing. But guess what? That process costs money! It would add heavy expense to the current programs, with the testing costs and paying people to do it, along with conducting more in depth screenings, home interviews, etc.

I say do what we realistically can. If people take advantage of the system, so be it. I'd rather 100 people take advantage than have 1 person get screwed out of something they actually need. If people want to lay around and do nothing and live off the government, I'm not gonna mope about it and decide I'm going to be unmotivated too.

In general, people worry way too much about everyone else and about how fair everything is. Do you.

If someone is actually trying I'm not going to complain about them needing help from the government. As long as they're trying. I have a family friend and she works full time and is a single mom with a dead beat ex. She's on all sorts of public assistance. The only person I hold this against is her ex-husband who doesn't do enough to support his children. She works hard and needs help. Fine by me.

I don't know what the solution is with public assistance. I believe we spend too much on it and people that don't deserve it are abusing it. I would be fine with spending more money to screen out the bad ones. Even if the savings are nominal I would rather the money go to the employees that test and screen than the deadbeats.

I am sure she might have a reason for the anger but she is directing it at the wrong person. I wonder if she realizes we all "benefit" from the government via tax payers one way or the other. For instance it is possible a road was built that made her getting around town easier that some people would find needless. Either way to use an old quote, she betta check herself before she wrecks herself. Bitch be crazy.

There's a trend here in the UK to glorify benefit cheats they get programs all the fucking time where they boast about getting money they don't deserve. Goverment gives em money who are they to say no... :leo

Its a subject that does my head in to be honest i'm just sick of these piss takers giving the general public the wrong image about those who are genuine

Wow.

The funny thing is that, in that woman's warped mind, she probably thinks it's people in a bad situation that are forced to (most likely reluctantly) use government assistance that's wrong with modern society, when in actuality, it's entitled cunts like her that are bigger issue with society in 2016.

Criticism of systems that are in place is one thing, but running your mouth like that while being completely ignorant to someone's position is just plain wrong.

Wouldn't care if it cost more money to vet people, it would create more jobs and in the long run save the Government money because deadbeats couldn't get onto the welfare system. The system should be for citizens to use who are in trouble and need help. Citizens only, vetted and have to be working a minimal job or going to school. That's how it should be.

I'm just glad this doesn't involve race for a change.

That woman should just mind her own business and just for the record, you're only entitled to free speech on public property (even then only up to a point), not on private property (like in a Walmart) so in other words, bitch should've got a disturbing the peace charge.

As for public assistance in general, I really dislike the many people who exploit it but I imagine it helps some honest people as well. As another poster suggested, it without a doubt needs a major reform and more scrutinizing so the deadbeat assholes who ruin it for everyone can't do that as easily.

But this bitch had no right sticking her nose where it didn't belong and assuming the worst.

This. Nice to be able too have a discussion where its looked at objectively as just two people without other motives being automatically assigned.

I noticed that too. Makes me wonder if she didn't like the shirt and that played a role in her opening her mouth. I sort of miss the days of being side eyed over the stuff that my band shirts say. Lol.
