Sadly the story I just saw on the news is not fully covered here or on their web site. The shop owner gave me quite a laugh.

1) He said he wants to keep guns in the hands of people who will go out and use them for good in the community. Yea because that has been working out SO good lately. It reminds me of the "Guns Saves Lives" signs on farms in the Midwest. Because we all remember watching ER and the doctors asking for 50 CC's of some drug and a glock 43.

2) The best was he said he did not want to sell them to Muslims so they can go blow people up. WHAT??!!!!!???? LMFAO!!!!!!! Does this schmuck not know how guns are used. They do not blow up. Well they might but if they do you got a piece of crap. It is not like the majority of the terrorists are going around with guns shooting up people. And in the cases where they have I wonder how many of the guns were legit. I am no expert but I think Europe has tougher gun laws than the US.

Now there might be a concern of terrorists buying guns to go on a killing spree here in the States and/or shipping them overseas. But I just feel that odds are they will buy them illegally here and not at a legit store.

It's true that guns save lives.

You're a 20-year-old woman living alone out in the country. It's the middle of the night and you hear somebody break a window and enter your house.

Do you -

A. Do nothing and get raped and murdered
B. Call the police and hope the ~15 minute response time will be enough

or

C. Defend yourself

Any rational person would choose option C. Guns are great for self-defense, the best actually. If you fuck with my family and my home, you'd best believe I'll shoot your ass. You can't take away a man's right to defend himself.

I understand him not wanting to sell guns to Muslims given the whole ISIS thing playing out right now. I wouldn't want to give them guns either.

Bigotry plain and simple.
Judge doesn't give a fuck because it's a marginalized group.
Imagine if he tried "Black Free Zone".

The judge would be under far more pressure to address it.
Instead this judge is like "Meh. Muslims are all terrorists, right? No issue here."

I understand him not wanting to sell guns to Muslims given the whole ISIS thing playing out right now. I wouldn't want to give them guns either.
Well of course no one wants to chance giving a gun to a terrorist but Muslim does not automatically equal terrorist and by discriminating in this fashion, it actually means the true terrorists are winning the battle by redirecting the hate towards innocents and also making Americans more panicky and prejudiced. But this guy's Confederate flag and photo explains most of the story anyhow.

I really don't have a problem with what the store owner did. The best way IMO to expose ignorance for what it is, is to allow it to show itself out in the open where everyone can see it and judge it for what it is. If the store owner openly refuses to sell his wares to a certain group, than anyone belonging to that group or disagreeing with his business practice is free to shop elsewhere.

And even in the event of a Muslim being refused a sale in that store, how does that constitute "harm"? Is there nowhere else in that city or state where they can go to legally obtain a firearm? Seems like some people want to legislate how others are allowed to think. I don't believe that is the best way to combat prejudice. That just makes it go underground where it can fester and threaten to thrive unchecked.

Precisely, Pratch.

Let people be free. If some restaurant owned by blacks in Harlem doesn't want to serve neo-Nazi skinheads dinner, fine by me. If someone doesn't want to allow me in to dine for the length of my hair, as happened to me once in East Bay, fine by me. If some gun shop in Florida has an owner who doesn't want to serve Muslims--however he thinks he can enforce such a mandate--fine by me.

Let people to be free, to associate, to do business with, to discriminate, if they so choose to discriminate.

It's a much better "system" than one that seeks to extinguish all agency from individuals on behalf of an enforced "tolerance" by gunpoint.

Something has to be missing here. Like something has to be left out here.

It was the Council on American-Islamic Relations that brought suit and it was dismissed for not stating an injury. My guess is that none of them actually tried to buy a gun? Something like is my guess. I don't there there's anyway the case was just dismissed with them outright discriminating.

The sign reads that Muslims will be considered trespassing.
The implication being that trespassers will be shot. And, it's a gun store so it's not hard to believe that that could happen.

It's illegal religious discrimination and the judge just doesn't give a fuck.
I don't think they're going to let this go though and they shouldn't.
That corrupt judge needs to answer to this ruling instead of just "Well they didn't prove their case".

There's video and photo evidence of the sign and the guy bragging about it. That's about as hard evidence as you can get.
Judge just doesn't care!

Looks like they are going to send a brave Muslim into that store to see if they get denied.
Then they will have a case, hopefully it doesn't mean loss of life when Andy gets 'threatened' by the 'trespasser'.
Then that half-wit will say that he was within his right because 'they werr trespassin".

Ultimately, as completely moronic and misguided as this store owner is, he does have that right. Businesses reserve the right to refuse service to anyone for any reason. It's standard procedure, just some are more blatant about it than others and put it out there for the public to see.

As for me, I don't understand why someone would want to frequent a business that doesn't want you around? If I had a situation like that, I tell them I will spend their money with their competitor.

Personally I am fine with his "zone". It lets intelligent people know where not to shop. Heck I am tempted to go sit outside his store and take pics of people going in. That is my right. It is just his justification I find funny. Yes guns can save lives but look how few times that happens vs how many times they hurt/kill people either on purpose or accidently. To me it is playing the odds. I prefer a Louisville slugger to a revolver. But I do not want to stop people who wish to choose the other. All I ask is for some simple common sense. That is so lacking these days but especially when it comes to guns.

Outside of the gun issue there is the "Muslim" and terrorists issue. One of the most powerful weapons of terrorists, heck for any side in any war, is propaganda. And sadly this shop owner is just helping feed the propaganda machine. It is one thing to refuse service to an individual because you are worried if they will be a responsible gun owner and a completely different thing to discriminate against a whole religion. But if this is the way we are going I suggest Chuck E Cheese makes their stores a "Catholic-free" zone.

From the way the reporters were talking, the judge worded it that he can put up signs but he has to be careful to actually deny them a sale based on their religion.

Agree with you on all of that about how we can't allow discrimination.

Except for the fact that people are being hypocrites for being against gun control and supporting this guy not selling to Muslims. I also don't think the people saying he should be allowed to do this are racist either. They just want people to do whatever they want without the government interfering. So maybe that's buy a gun, or refuse to serve people. I honestly don't believe that most people supporting him would be outraged if a business didn't allow white people in.

You're a hypocrite if are rich and want to raise taxes on the rich but then lie on your tax returns to pay less taxes.

Not to sidetrack the discussion but Christians are not sinning when they eat shellfish because the New Testament allows Christians to eat anything as long as it is received by prayer and thanksgiving.

As far as the subject, I agree with an earlier poster that the guy is allowed and protected by the First Amendment to express his belief. However, if he actually refused to sell a gun to a Muslim just based off of religion and not a reasonable premise to actually deny a gun then that is a different story.

Because he's a private individual and not the government.

If gun sellers had their own standards on who they would sell guns to with no government involvement and they didn't just discriminate against certain groups I would have no problem with it. In fact I would probably like that a lot.

True it is an individual vs the government but if the government allows it does that not mean the government is in a way endorsing it. Ah there is the rub. Where is the line of government involvement?
