I have been watching the news of the video release of the shooting of Laquan McDonald.

My question is; If the city has already paid the family $5 Million, will the officer get a fair trial. Could the payment be seen as showing guilt?

BTW, Shooting anyone 16 times is absolutely horrendous.

I just watched the video the guy had a knife but that's not reason to unload the clip.

Won't be able to take protest serious in a city where 500 people get murdered a year.
Murdered by people who are not on the taxpayer's dime. It takes a really sick fuck to unload into what was essentially a corpse like that.
Cop shouldn't have unloaded the clip i guess that's why he got charged.
He got charged because he executed a child that was at no point a threat to him.

I would imagine that the judge wouldn't let any talk of a settlement in the civil case be brought up at the criminal trial.

I'm not really sure how the cop is going to get a fair trial in all honesty. I don't think they would risk riots by moving the trial out of Chicago but I don't see how they can get impartial jurors in Chicago.

Dude, you're totally missing the point!

Was McDonald brandishing a knife? Maybe he was, maybe he wasn't.

Did he refuse to drop the knife when ordered to do so? Maybe he was, maybe he wasn't. How do we know he either A) didn't hear the cops' order, or B) didn't know the cops were talking to him, specifically, when they issued the order?

Even if the cop could somehow prove that McDonald knew the cop was talking to him, and openly defied the order, IT STILL DOESN'T FUCKING MATTER! That still doesn't give the cop the right to become the citizen's judge, jury, and executioner. We have an entire court system for that.

The citizen wasn't even doing anything illegal. He was just ... walking down the street ... while simultaneously exercising his 2nd Amendment rights. So, the cop didn't even have probable cause to ARREST him, let alone become McDonald's judge, jury, and executioner. He just felt uncomfortable about the fact that a black guy had a weapon. Well boo motherfucking hoo! Officer Self-Entitled can just get the fuck over himself.

I'm glad the prosecutor is charging this cop with first degree murder and giving the family a $5 million settlement. So many times, in past few years, incidents of cops killing black civilians have made national headlines, and the cops were not even so much as indicted, often leading to riots in the streets. I'm glad the prosecutor in this case is doing the right thing.

I have a huge problem with the police department here as well. The story the cop gave was the guy had a knife and came at him with the knife so he shot him in self defense. But the Police Department KNEW this was a lie and never came forward with the proof. This happened over a year ago and they had this video the entire time and never once came forward with it but instead stood behind this fucking prick. I have a huge problem with that.

Finally a case worthy of protest and outrage from the BLM movement.

Do cops not carry tasers anymore? What happened to that whole dont tase me bro meme shit. Two cops with a taser could subdue any high guy with a tiny knife.

If that doesn't work and the suspect comes at you fine have someone on standby ready to shoot.

edit - UK police don't even carry guns. I wonder how they would subdue such a person. Tasers like I said? Batons?
U.S police need to stop acting like military in Iraq and look to EU countries and how their police operate.

I understand that sometimes force is necessary. This guy went after the cops with a knife and should have been taken into custody. Worse-case scenario, a police officer should be allowed to use deadly force as a last resort.

Yet, even for someone like me that adores the 2nd Amendment, 16 bullets into a perp unless he opened fire with an M-16 seems to be overkill. Yes, McDonald used horrible judgment in going after a police car's tires, but did you really need to fill him with so much lead he could pass for a paperweight now?

At the same time, is Black Lives Matter really about changes in how the police do things or are they just rabble-rousers looking for any excuse to pick a fight?

A cop just got off recently for shooting a man in the back while he was crawling face down after she shot him twice with a stun gun with video of the incident...Until the courts/government starts holding holding these people more accountable of their actions, they're never gonna think twice...sad

Piggy needs to fry for this, and any jury with any shred of decency will ensure that he is bacon by this time next year. I especially LMFAO when I hear any form of defense (particularly from his lawyer) even attempted, as he had already pumped sixteen rounds into someone who was walking away from him, and still felt the need to start reloading his gun before someone stopped and asked him WTF he was doing.

Chicago Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy has resigned, and now the calls are coming for Mayor Emanuel to resign. They are citing the fact that people believe he sat on the video and its release during the re-election campaign because he wouldn't get votes. He stated that it was because the investigation was still underway.

Emanuel is no longer the darling of the liberal world anymore.

Couldn't this cop use his taser? My cousin is a Cop in Utah. He and others had to experience what it's like to be tasered. He explained to me that it will drop you to the ground immediately. Not that I didn't already realize this fact. I just don't see a reason to empty a whole clip into someone who is clearly already dead, or on their way to dying. He shot the man while he was on the ground. Jesus Christ.

I don't think there's any doubt that he SHOULD have cooperated with the cops before he was shot. Yeah he 100% should have just listened to them because he had already committed a crime. And if he had listened he probably wouldn't have been shot and killed.

But the reaction to him not cooperating should not have been to shoot him.

I know there is some debate about this but the main arguments from both sides are both true. Cops shouldn't have shot him and he should have listened to the cops before they shot him.
