Fighting bad breath?

Ok so this is kind of embarrassing. I have made it a habit for so long not to brush my teeth daily. I know that is really stupid but suffering from depression sometimes you lose hope for yourself. Simple things like showering and brushing teeth become harder to do. Over the years I have developed very bad breathe. I can't maintain a clean breath even only 10 minutes after brushing it smells like shit. I really want to change and take care of myself better. I come to the realization that no one will love me if I don't even love myself or treat myself well. There is a girl I like and my only chance with her is if I actually put some effort in myself. No girl will want a guy whos breath constantly smells like a pile of fresh dog shit. It is just simple hygiene. Any advice? Sometimes I get so down that I just go to sleep without brushing my teeth the entire day. It has become a habit. I mean even if I clean up my hygiene I still have doubts that I have a chance with this girl she is kind of above my league. That is the problem with me. I have so much self confidence issues that I find any normal girl above my league. I need help. It's more of a mental issue then a hygiene issue. If I had more confidence and love for myself this would not be an issue. This girl I like she is just really cute it is hard to describe and I have a feeling she kind of likes me. You can tell sometimes. I just don't want to make it weird or screw up.

Brush your teeth, floss, mouthwash. Chew gum, eat apples.

BAM

Problem solved

NB Also arrange an appointment with a dentist ASAP as not brushing your teeth for a while could (and probably has) leave you with cavities that need looking after.

:positivity

The floss bit is REALLY important for bad breath.

also remember a conservative estimate for the number of attractive single women in the world is 75 MILLION.

Makes approaching them so much easier when you figure out they ain't that special :quimby

I've made it a habit to floss while I'm watching TV after dinner. If you have a regular activity that you do like sitting in front of a computer or watching TV or something mundane. .. it's a good idea to do some basic body grooming activities during that down time.

Also, honestly it sounds like you might have infections in your mouth. Infected gums etc can cause bad breath even if you keep up your oral higene. It might be prudent to go visit a dentist. It might be a little embarrassing to even see a dentist in your case, but the alternative to not having your teeth and gums checked out is far, far worse than embarrassment.

I'm back and I have been taking much better care of myself. I still don't shower daily though.

I bought these little green sticks with dental floss on them. It makes it easier to floss and they are disposable. I got these whitening strips and I have been brushing 3 times a day and 1 hour after every meal.

Pretty much. Or an interdental brush on top of your regular toothbrush would do as well. Breath is more about killing the bacteria in your mouth than brushing, and don't forget to scrub your tongue clean as well.

Change your diet so that it solely consists of poo. Stick to dog and cat shit, or cow if you can get hold of that as it's basically vegetarian. Don't eat human shit though, that's just weird.

Your breath will be like flowers and perfume in no time.

Everclear Grain 190 Proof. This is what you're looking for. It will burn all bacteria in your mouth, but you have to remember to take regular shots.

I would definitely try to use mouthwash and brush your tongue, but do it twice a day: once when you wake up in the morning to get rid of all the bacteria that's been multiplying in your sleep, and once before you go to bed (a clean mouth also helps you sleep better).

Also, carry around some mints or gum. It doesn't even have to be strong mint flavor if you don't like mint, as long as it takes the odor away.

Stop breathing. /thread

Obviously: brush your teeth multiple times, floss, mouthwash and chewwing gum. Avoid smoking, garlic and alcohol when you're about to make out.

God I laughed so hard at this thread. Not because of your situation OP but how you expressed it. Like others said flossing and brushing your tongue is very important. Also you might want to check to see if you have tonsil stones. Google it. It's basically calcium white stones in the back of your throat.

You can start by not being disgusting and actually brushing on a daily basis. 'Depression' and self pity won't make you smell better.

Brushing and flossing is a start, but will only mask the nasty smell for so long. Since you brush your teeth occasionally, it would probably help to change your diet (more water and fresh vegetables help) and take preventative measures when it comes to bacterias that cause the smell.

Sugarless gum after a meal helps too. Also, I've heard that cleansing the colon to remove toxins is a good extreme for helping bad breath, but unsure about the validity of that one.

There are those breath mints you can eat to prevent bad odors from coming up from your tummy. Just get into the habit, I'd suggest brushing in the morning/before bed and after a meal at work. That way in case you forget once you're covered! Everything is a habit, just got to make it one. Also you can use brushing as a way to wake up, if you're feeling tired brushing your teeth can wake you up! This can make brushing seem rather as getting some pep rather than a chore!

Good luck!

Flossing is more important than people realize. that really is most of the work.

And don't use those crappy dental picks either. They seem quicker and faster, and they are, but that's because they aren't doing as much work.

And when you floss, be sure to get ALL of your teeth, even those pesky ones in the back.

Alot of people don't floss because it is a hassle to do in the morning. Well, don't do it in the morning. I floss my teeth before I go to bed. That way, I am cleaning out all the gunk from that day right before my second brushing and I go to bed with a clean mouth.

I recommend Crest's Glide floss. Its about as comfortable as floss can be and it gets the job done.

Also good is cleaning your tongue. You can get a tongue cleaner/scraper. I put toothpaste on my tongue before applying the tongue cleaner and it works well.

As for mouthwash...me personally, I'm not too picky about that. A swig a day with Listerine or Scope will be just fine.

However, none of what I just said will mean anything if you don't go see a dentist once every six months. I went about 5 years without seeing a dentist and even though I was brushing twice a day, flossing, and everything else, the dentist said my gums were inflamed to the point of being close to gingivitis. You just can't get everything yourself and regular check ups make a world a difference. I've been seeing my current dentist for two years now and my mouth feels loads better and it is easier to maintain fresh breath.

And finally, there are Listerine breath strips, minty gum, Mentos, Altoids, and all sorts of other things for a quick refresher to keep your mouth smelling good.
