Why is scrambled the most popular and preferred method of preparing eggs?

I'm guessing I'm asking this question because I never really cared for them as a kid, but everywhere you go it appears scrambled eggs is favored over other methods, such as sunnyside up, over easy, boiled, or even poached. Growing up this always intrigued me as to why scrambled eggs were so popular as I never saw the appeal to it. Is it because it fluffs up and thus fills you up more, making it a common staple amongs poorer people? Is it because of its versatility, being that you can make scrambled egg sandwiches or omelets and Quiche? Is it just more fun in general for eggs to be "scrambled"?

I don't know. I was too busy eating sunny side up or over easy, because of the yolk. Always went good with toast or you can make what's called an "egg nest" or "hole in 1" and cut out a circle in the middle of the slice of bread and cook the egg in there.

Anyways, a quick Google search shows nothing to the popularity of scrambled over other methods of preparation. So I ask the good people of WF, what is your favored way of cooking eggs? Let's get some sort of census going here.

I think it stems from what your willing to eat as a kid. i dont know to many kids who are down for eating a yolk on a sunny side up, or over easy. scramble that shit and they scarf it up. some people just hold onto that. my question is i dont understand how people eat scrambled eggs that are cooked to shit and just strips of yellow leather.

Scrambled can be outstanding if you whisk and beat the eggs, supplying oxygen rather than meekly stir them together. Adding just a little bit of milk in the final beating and whisking motions also provides the eggs with a slightly fluffier constitution upon their being scrambled. When one cracks an egg open into a pan the three parts are evident. The golden yolk, the watery white and a thicker, gelled white. Egg white contains numerous mucoproteins, which stores protein linked to myriad carbohydrates. These mucoproteins and carbohydrates instill the growing embryo with supportive nutrients. Over half of the protein in egg white is comprised of ovalbumin. When one beats egg whites the proteins unfold as their hydrophobic parts are whipped apart. Seasoning of eggs also helps to make scrambled eggs tastier than they may be otherwise. I do enjoy sunny side up or over-easy eggs or poached eggs as well. MrMister has a point about omelets as well.

Then again I would most enjoy fresh laid eggs for a change. :mark: @AryaDark Imagine eggs in different colors, from turquoise to violet. Supposedly based on most studies fresh laid eggs contain roughly 25% more vitamin E, as much as 20x the amount of omega-3 fatty acids and almost exactly 75% more beta carotene than eggs found in stores with dramatically less cholesterol, and according to a few independent studies as much as half less.

I can't tell you, but sunny side up or over easy are the best way IMO. I love the taste of warm egg yolk on my bacon and toast and I wish eggs held more because it tastes great on hash browns.

If I'm eating just eggs, I'll scramble or poach that shit.

With bacon, sausage or gammon, it's gott be sunny side up.

You can do soft-boiled eggs with toast "soldiers" too for the fun of it.

It's all about what you're eating it with. Can't stand devilled eggs though.

EDIT: Me and @Rush take eggs way too seriously

Out of all the eggs I've ever prepared, scrambled was the easiest for me since I like to flip over a regular fried egg and almost always fuck up the yolk. Probably that's the main reason why.

My personal favourite is an omelet with a blend of seasoning, crushed red or jalapeno pepper, some real peppers, tomatoes, onions, bacon bits (real bacon, not the imitation stuff sold in stores) and cheese (usually pepper jack or colby). Is a bit more complicated than most things, but when I get it right, it's the best thing in the world to have first thing in the morning.

Over here, scrambled is actually not the most common, we usually have them sunny side up or boiled. Poached and soft-boiled are popular as well.

I think they are scrambled by restaurants and cafes and such due to their ease of cooking, the lack of mess and the lack of ability required to make passable eggs. I've always said you can tell a good cook/chef by how good their scrambled eggs are.

It's easy to make scrambled eggs, but it's hard to make them really well.

For bistros/buffets/Maccas etc. they also store easily and well while being warmed as opposed to fried eggs. So I'm guessing that would have something to do with it too.

Also real talk, the best kind of egg is poached. The only time I'm not poaching is if I can't be fucked with the effort to do so and then I'll just fry them. The way I scramble eggs takes quite a while (albeit simple) so it's usually only for special occasions or whatever. I'll add some baby spinach in at the end and some smoked salmon on top. That's about it.
