Dukes of Hazzard Dropped by TV Land: Bad Rap for the Good Ol' Boys?

How much to get the The General Lee a new paint job?

That question might be on the mind of Dukes of Hazzard fans after TV Land yanked twice-daily reruns of the show earlier this week due to controversy over the Confederate flag emblazoned on the roof of the 1969 Dodge Charger driven by its central characters, Bo and Luke Duke.

The move follows a decision by Warner Bros. to cease any Dukes merchandising deals involving the Confederate flag — a racially charged banner that’s come under renewed scrutiny following white supremacist Dylann Roof’s murder of nine members of a historically black Charleston, S.C. church last month.

“Warner Bros. Consumer Products has one licensee producing die-cast replicas and vehicle model kits featuring the General Lee with the Confederate flag on its roof,” the company noted in a release. “We have elected to cease the licensing of these product categories.”

Dukes alum Ben Jones, who played Cooter on the early ’80s series, spoke out on Facebook against the controversy surrounding the vehicle, noting “that flag on top of the General Lee made a statement that the values of the rural south were the values of courage and family and good times… Activists and politicians are vilifying Southern culture and heritage as being bigoted and racist. We know that is not the case. And we know that in Hazzard County there was never any racism.”

CMT also airs Dukes of Hazzard reruns, but a quick scan of Xfinity cable listings shows no upcoming episodes in the next two weeks.
Are they going pull Hogan's Heroes next?

Like I said in the Apple thread, remember this whole thing started with a mass shooting by a crazy racist and people were either clamoring for gun reform or mental health reform?

Now it's somehow about this. Hell of a misdirect by somebody.

Look, Im all in favor of the Confederate flag being removed from government buildings and all. But to pull re-runs of The Dukes of Hazzard is just insane.

/thread even though you started it.

The Dukes of Hazzard being banned is beyond ridiculous. PC a Mania is running wild right now and everyone is putting it over. Just shaking my head at this news. How patently absurd.

Bunch of sensitive fucks over a god damn FLAG in a silly comedy show of all things :lmao :lmao :lmao

Bet it's not even the people who want the flag removed from government offices that are calling for this. Just stupid companies that are probably so paranoid they'll get bad publicity if they don't remove/censor what "might" offend people. Incredible.

So true. The company I work for sent out a company-wide memo earlier in the week stating that we as a company are in support of Nikki Haley's quest to remove the flag from State House grounds and will do what they can to help assist with that endeavor. While I'm in agreement for it to be removed, I'm just thinking to myself this flag has flown on the property for the longest time and not once did my company feel the need to object to it. However now they are on the bandwagon because it's obviously good for their agenda to seem like they are on the side of right.

My home state in Germany elected a Green Party prime minister after Fukushima. Years later my home town, home of Mercedes Benz and Porsche, elected a Green Party mayor.

Pletty of overreaction everywhere on the planet.

(TBF the other candidates were pretty shit)

welcome to the left pussyfication world
Funny, you cant say one your words on TV because of the right.

It's like I told a co-worker who thinks the Confederate Flag is the cause for all the issues in the past couple of weeks; the flag isn't the problem. The flag doesn't go to stores buy guns & ammo and start shooting up people for whatever misguided cause these people have in their heads. People kill people, period.

Banning everything Confederate isn't going to solve any problems, if anything it's going to make things worst. I agree with removing the flag from state grounds and leaving it in the monument but that should be the end of it. People stepping all over each other to do the PC thing and act like it didn't or doesn't exist is just asinine.

Makes me wonder what would my country do if some nut job decided to go to Canada or Mexico and go on a murder spree shooting up and killing people because they aren't United States citizens...will they be so quick to ban the American Flag like they are with the Confederate? Hardly don't think so.
