Aidan Fenton, 7, was getting treatment from the .alternative Chinese medicine workshop at the Tasly Healthpac Centre in Hurstville when he died, the Daily Telegraph reported.

Police have spoken to a Chinese therapist Hongchi Xiao who .advocates the use of slapping therapy — until patients are bruised — to cure illnesses and rid the body of poisons. The week- long therapy cost $1800.

Detectives are investigating whether Aidan was taken off his insulin before his death.

Mr Xiao, who hosted seminars at the workshop, left the country after being questioned by police.

It is believed Mr Xiao claimed participants in the seminar were asked to fast for three days and to undertake the slapping and stretching exercises that can prompt vomiting and dizzy spells, known as a “healing crisis”.

Not a single day goes by where some parent or the other leads their child to a horrible death at the hands of some quack or the other ...

It makes me pretty sad that a lot of first worlders are reverting to medieval therapies and treatments --- which in some cases are actually more expensive than regular care.

I think it's a combination of failure of science communication, education and Dr. Google MD bullshit that's causing 100's of annual deaths across the first world. Of course, then there's the idea that children are property and parental rights include the right to force personal beliefs on children even if it leads them to their death ...

“The greater the pain and bruises while slapping means there is more poison inside the body,” he told a seminar in South Africa last year. “You can be your own doctor. We were all born with a self-.healing power but we simply ignore it and spend millions of dollars paying for medications. Nature heals, doctors are only assistants.”
And of course, here's the real deal ... Fucking asshole somehow get away charging $1800 for his therapies by telling people not to pay real doctors ... Just unbelievable how assholes like this get rich by peddling their snake oil by telling everyone else how money hungry the medical industry is. Killers. The lot of them.

So the parents basically paid 1800 bucks for some weirdo to slap the shit out of their kid.

Parents could have done it at home for free.

Yeah, I know I'm kind of making light of the situation, but what else am I supposed to do? There's nothing to say. I feel bad for the little guy, of course, but what point is there in highlighting how stupid his parents are? I know it, you know it, we all know it. Everyone out there who thinks that there are some magical, outlandish cures for ailments are fucking idiots. Medicine and treatments. That's the way to go. Why? They're proven to work. Did Aiden's parents ever once say "hmmm, maybe we should wait for some real concrete evidence that this therapy is legit"? No, and this is what happens. Anyone who is stupid enough to gamble with their kid's life doesn't deserve to have children (unless its a damned if you do, damned if you don't kinda thing. Ex. Billy has a cancer in a major organ, do you remove the organ and risk having him die, but possibly living if they can get a transplant? Or leave it alone, let the cancer spread and he's 100% a goner. That's different). I don't have children, how is it I know this and alleged parents don't? Do NOT fuck around when its someone else's life. If the mom made her own choice to get this done to cure HER diabetes (let's say she had it), that's one thing. But instead, they made an incredibly stupid and ill informed choice for their son and he died. Even beyond thinking it would work (which is dumb enough, how do fucking slaps extract poisons from your body? And how does extracting poison fix the fact that his pancreas doesn't generate enough insulin?), a 7 year old is not the specimen to be using to test whether or not it WOULD work. God, the kid must have had a miserable last few days, all bruised up, crying and in pain, all because his parents are morons and this healer is a con man.

Oh by the way, I looked into this joker Hongchi Xiao. Found another article. Apparently this guy believes breast cancer is caused by an unhappy marriage.

Here's what someone's back looks like after this treatment.

Sadly, there are some really stupid people in this world. Aiden may not have been one of them, but HE paid the price for someone ELSE being stupid. Where's the justice?

A story like this pisses me off because it's personal. I'm a diabetic, Type 1 (which means my pancreas does not produce any insulin, and I take 2-4 injections a day for it)...and no matter what anyone believes, diabetes cannot be controlled any other way. My pancreas is dead. It does not function. There is no infection to remove in my body, no way of eliminating a disease that allows my pancreas to revert to the way it was when I was 9 years old.

While I don't believe any kind of slapping cures anything, you could understand where someone would look to "ancient techniques" to cure such things as sinus infections and the common cold. When your organ(s) are shot, logic has to come into play, and to think a man can be allowed anywhere near the medical field, while being that ignorant, is frightening.

it'll be like the rodney king trial all over again. the cops won't get convicted. lets just hope the city/state leaders have enough sense to put a curfew on the city to prevent the thugs from tearing up the city.

If your doctor is recommending something that no other doctor recommended you are going to the wrong doctor

The problem is not the snake oil salesmen, its the massive anti-science views that the internet has fostered where scientists and doctors are part of some massive conspiracy

I found alternative medical fans offensive to people suffering for real life long problems or people dieing of serious ailments

Tell someone with Parkinson’s Disease that they just need acupuncture

Tell man dieing of prostate cancer that his treatment is stupid and just smoke some herbs

imagine if your mother died of cancer and some guy tries to say that smashed up leaves in a bowl is all that is need to cure cancer like its no big deal

Well, this is merely a difference of opinion.

I believe in the age old saying "Those who surrender their freedoms for security, deserve neither" and I'm quite hard-line about it, even to the point where I'm completely willing to accept people screwing themselves over as long as they have the right to screw themselves over. I believe more good will ultimately be done as people can find out what works and what doesn't work out by themselves, instead of being forced to do things, and doing stupid stuff through rebellion.

I just seriously doubt we will have mass epidemics breaking out everywhere if people have the right to decide for themselves whether they want vaccine or not. Most people will still have it. Maybe it would lead to a few extra deaths but that is the nature of life, can't protect everybody.

Your libertarian stance is fine and I have no problems with restricting government as well as increasing freedoms for people --- but the issue of freedom around vaccination needs to be properly examined in the sense of social responsibility vs personal freedom.

Vaccination is a social concern because of the fact that unvaccinated children are more susceptible to harm themselves as well as inadvertently bringing about harm to others. The anti-vaccination movement is attempting to muddy the waters by making ridiculous claims like vaccinations don't work, or there is no such thing as herd immunity --- but if you accept both the science of vaccinations, the statistics of reducing disease outbreaks as well as eliminating several diseases outright from the general population as a whole, then you simply cannot justify equating vaccination to a personal freedom.

This is a personal freedom where the net result is harm not just to the self, but to others and others' children. It's not even just the government's responsibility to ensure the safety of my children. It's my responsibility to do that. The reason why I'm vocal about enforced vaccinations is because I don't want someone else's freedom to do harm to my child. This is not even debateable. Not in the first world. Not when the best possible solution exists where maximized vaccinations provides the maximum protection to my child.

This is like refusing to put safety rails on a staircase and when a couple of people die by falling over "oh well, you can't put safety rails on every staircase because of personal freedoms" ... Bullshit. It's not even about personal freedoms .. It's about maximizing protection for the maximum number of people using the best available tools.

When we speak of personal freedoms, they are always restricted by a limiter that clearly states "as long as that freedom causes no harm to other individuals". Not vaccinating your kids falls in that category therefore it is not a personal freedom.

Yeah, slap treatment, how does this guy have a medical license? Some people, fucking hell. Same goes for that bitch that lied about curing cancer with happy thoughts or whatever she was saying for her blog.

There are some "alternative medicine" that might work, slapping people to death is not one of them though.

I can understand having small paranoia about random vaccines, anti-depressants and painkillers but you're not going to heal diabetes by fasting, stretching and meditating. There's just a limit to what you can do with the "natural" stuff.

No logic whatsoever behind it, unless you believe in miracles. As long as you're relatively healthy, you can stay away from the doctors, but self-preservation should come first when you have a serious medical condition, even if it means compromising your religious/scientific beliefs.

Don't worry, nothing will happen because if it does, the quack will just cry racist and then Whites will instantly grovel and apologize for being culturally insensitive
