(Sorry if I posted this in the wrong forum, please move it to the appropriate section if necessary)

So I'm a Magic player. I figured there must be some other people on this forum who play. So...does anyone? What do you play? Are you a casual or more competitive player? What are your favorite cards or colors? Any interesting strategies you play?

I play more competitively in tournaments at a place near where I live. The people there really know their shit and seem to be a good group. It really emphasizes the difference between competitive play and casual play.

Anyway, if this thread starts getting some other posters I'll go into more detail concerning what I play.

Loooooooooooooooooong fucking time ago when I was still a teenager I played competitively (even got a $5,000 scholarship from the Junior Super Series in Florida from it) during the era of Finkel, Budde, Buelher, etc.

Went to a few Pro Tours and Top 8'd a few Grand Prix but the game was just too random to win consistently enough for me to justify the time that went into it. Most of the friends I made from it I still have today though but they moved on to more lucrative card tournaments (Texas Holdem') while I focused on school and dropped off.

Hope you do great and find your niche playa' (Y)

You seriously Top 8'd in Grand Prix? That's incredibly impressive. What were you playing?

I think I understand about consistent wins, by the way. But I believe that's what keeps the game fresh. You won't necessarily win all the time-luck is obviously a factor, and there's your knowledge of the game (ie. knowing what cards in your deck combat certain strategies). So combining luck (which you can't control) and skill/stats (which you can control) makes for some excitement. I would prefer this to a deck that's point and click (in other words, you play it and win). That gets boring, I like relying on my own wits.

I, personally, really enjoy the creativity of decks and the interactions between the cards. There are some people with a really amazing knowledge of the game that find these combinations that make their decks really effective. And with something like....10,000 different cards in the game, you get variety, which I'm a big fan of.
