A lovesick American teenager almost died after getting drunk and nearly drowning in a river when he was dumped by a young Chinese woman he flew 7000 miles to visit.
The 18-year-old, who was only named by his surname Pratt in Chinese media, had travelled from his home state of Ohio across to Jiangshan, a city in Zhejiang province in China, after becoming infatuated with a young woman he had met online.
But after getting the cold shoulder from his online ladylove when he turned up, he started drinking and was found suffering from hypothermia and unconscious on the staircase leading down into the Xu River.

I also felt bad for him until I got to this part "Police said it appears the young woman may not have taken him seriously until he suddenly turned up in Xiamen, in Fujian Province, and then went to Jiangshan to meet the girl."

So she never gave him her real name, and they never made real plans to even meet, that guy just showed up on her doorstep one day. Who in their right mind would travel to a diffentet country to meet someone they don't even know their real name.

And where the hell are this kids parents.

Poor bastard! I can totally understand him wanting to get shit-faced after being rejected by a chick that he'd traveled halfway around the world for. I bet the whole flight over he was super-excited, imagining all the sweet love he'd be making with some tasty oriental, only to have his dreams crushed! Tom Waits used to write songs about this kind of shit. Maybe I'm just an old romantic, but I feel sorry for the guy.

18 is an adult legally but maybe not mentally. That's why I think people around that age should be tested when doing stupid things and not be classified or charged with an adult crime if under 18. They should used mental tests to determine adulthood for young people, Not a one age (18) fits all.

Traveling all the way to a different part of the world and then gets rejected by the Chinese girl. Then gets in a depressive state of mind and nearly kills himself by heavy drinking. To add in found suffering from hypothermia and unconscious on the staircase leading down into the Xu River. He is 18 years old and I kind of feel bad for him and hopefully he gets therapy for this mess.

Here's the deal: Anyone who is willing to meet a girl without her showing any kind of interest in getting to know you on that level first is a bumbling fool.

Now, I've dealt with mixed signals plenty of times in my day, so that's different -- esp. at that young age where girls are really stupid and have no idea what they want or from who. They're just this awful mix of hormones and they flirt with everything for a phase lol. Now that sucks and I can relate.

If there were no signals and he just randomly showed up, then that's his fault.

I'm not traveling down the street to meet a bitch unless she wants my dick or I have some chance of hittin' it for sure.

He'll grow up and get better at filtering these things. When you're young and in love, you do the dumbest things. At least he didn't do something really bad like murder her.
