Yep, that's Sen. James Inhofe, Republican from Oklahoma, throwing a snowball to prove that global warming isn't really happening.
"We keep hearing that 2014 has been the warmest year on record," Inhofe said. "So I ask the chair," — referring to Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-LA) — "Do you know what this is? It's a snowball, from just outside here. So it's very, very cold out... very unseasonable." He then lobbed said snowball to a page and lapsed into deep silence, a smile across his face.
Inhofe, by the way, isn't some random nut off the street. He's currently chair of the Senate's Environment and Public Works committee. You want Congress to do something about global warming? For the next two years, at least, any bill would have to go through him.
Can't post the videos in since they aren't youtube/dailymotion embeds. Basically, snow exists which means it isn't warm outside. The globe can't be warming if it's not warm outside. Rest of the article explains (rationally) why he's a moron.
This is the guy that will help approve or kill any policies for the next 2 years.
People do know the recent weather is a result of global warming, right?
Hotter air around the globe causes more moisture to be held in the air than in prior seasons. When storms occur, this added moisture can fuel heavier precipitation in the form of more intense rain or snow.
I would suggest these people learn the difference between weather and climate, but they'd also probably be to busy dodging questions on whether or not they accept other scientific theories.
Global warming could actually cause an ice age, as the hotter it gets, the more the ice caps melt, the more cold water plunges into the oceans, the more likely the the gulf stream will collapse, followed by an ice age.
Seriously though, what the fuck do you expect him to do? I'm 99% sure he knows what he's saying is ridiculous, but that's the people he's got to appeal to - old ******** in the intellectual cesspool known as Oklahoma. If he turns up to the committee and says "Yes, we need to take action to halt this" what do you think's going to happen? He gets booted out of office next time he's up for office and someone else gets voted in instead.
The problem is a chronic lack of quality in education, and maybe the gene pool, in many US constituencies. You'll change fuck all by attacking the politicians because they'll get replaced by someone else who obeys the people in their state, you need to improve the quality of the electorate.
You say thinking is "unamerican" and yet you're just spewing the myth that vaccines are linked to causing autism, which you'd find out isn't actually true if you'd read about it and come to your own conclusions.
It's such a huge problem "scientists" have to fudge temperature records
It's so urgent it hasn't happened in any statistically meaningful fashion since 1998
It took "scientists" 3 years to even acknowledge that, 3 years of Oh there's no way global warming has slowed or stopped, our super-accurate compootar models didn't predict such a thing! Stop asking questions you oil company whores. Temperatures are still definitely rising steadily.
(except they, uh, weren't. but nevermind, "Science!" (TM))
Now the religion of science insists that hey it will start up again soon! Believe them! Please! They're "scientists."
Global warming isn't science anymore (if it ever was), it's a cult religion.
I guess when Florida is underwater in a few hundred years time we're still gonna have people like you saying that climate change isn't happening fast enough for us to do anything about it.
Extremists from both sides are retarded. Is there global climate change? Yes. Does that mean I should be able to pump what vile crap I want to into the atmosphere? No.
Environmentalists sometimes exacerbate the problems with their regulations. Coal was being mined efficiently and burned with the lowest environmental impact here in the states, but the tree huggers wanted to stop it completely so there was zero environmental issues associated with coal. However now the coal is being exported to countries where their precious regulations mean fuck all and essentially took a step back in keeping the air clean.
Reducing emissions doesn't change what's already happening. We are but a blip on the timeline on the Earth, and it'll still be here long after we're gone. What I would give to be able to stand back and watch where millenia are mere seconds. The Earth is a living organism, a microcosm of symbiotic interchanges, and all we are is a cold. I'd love to just observe evolution in all of its grandeur. Life always finds a way, there isn't a thing humans could do to that planet where it wouldn't just keep trucking along.
Oh to just stand back and be able to watch the glory.
Where I live we see record amounts of snow and freezing cold temperatures, these are the directions result of global warming. All that evaporated moisture has to come back down.
