Billionaire Tim Draper launches 'Six Californias' ballot measure

I would love to see California turned into 6 different states. I don't see it happening but it would be interesting to see what happens if they get enough votes.

"Tech investor Tim Draper launches 'Six Californias' ballot measure to divide the Golden State

"Lots of folks believe California is ungovernable. Venture capitalist Tim Draper has a solution: Six Californias, including one called Silicon Valley.

Draper, a maverick tech investor who once poured $20 million into a statewide school voucher initiative, on Monday laid out his case for a proposed ballot measure that, if passed by voters, would demand Congress slice and dice the nation's most populous state.

"We're simply too big and bloated," Draper declared in a news conference from Draper University of Heroes, the San Mateo school for aspiring startup CEOs he opened earlier this year."

He said people are already flocking to his Spartan website, www.sixcalifornias.info, which he said will soon contain more details about the plan.

Asked by this newspaper how much of his own fortune he plans to sink into his latest political crusade, Draper deadpanned: "As little as possible." Then he added, "I'll make sure it gets on the ballot, so that Californians have a chance to make the decision."

6 Proposed states:

Jefferson - the same name as an entity first proposed in the 1940s that would have included parts of Southern Oregon and Northern California.
North California
Central California
South California
Silicon Valley
West California

Can someone explain to me how this fixes the problem of California being too big and bloated? It seems like multiple states would create more government and make it more bloated.

each government would be governing a smaller part. So instead of governing the whole state, you'd be in charge of a state 1/6th the size, thus making it eassy to govern. instead of governing 30 million you only govern 5 or 6.

More bureaucracy? More jobs for more politicians and their cronies?

It doesn't take a genius to see who this will really be benefiting.

It's what's best for business, after all.

It would help the rich states not have to pay for the backass poor parts of the state.

Texas needs to do the same thing.

Re: Billionaire Tim Draper launches 'Six Californias' ballot measure

Okay, how about this...

Let's cut Cali into 3 parts, make Texas it's own country and Florida we can just sink into the Caribbean. That way, we've still got 50 states and we get rid of the two worst places in the country. Added bonus: we won't have to go through any messy flag changing business.
