Re: Does Love Conquer All?

pretty sure arranged marriages have a way lower divorce rates than whatever the fuck western society thinks they're doing.

And no, love doesn't conquer shit. Maybe I'll change my mind one day, but I'd rather have a lot of other things than finding true love. Like being all knowing in everything. Now THAT would be awesome.

They called him the Lion of Lannister to his face...

...and whispered "Kingslayer" behind his back

Re: Does Love Conquer All?

The ones I know are, but I know of some cases where it hasn't worked either. I do believe the failure rate isn't quite as high as 50% though.

I was actually told by my far older cousin about my dad's proposal to my mom. Three questions asked and my mom had 2 minutes to decide if she wanted to do it(yes they have a choice, what a surprise to many of you, right?).

They called him the Lion of Lannister to his face...

Re: Does Love Conquer All?

I wouldn't be surprised at all if the divorce rate of arranged marriages is much lower since, you know, a lot of the time you're FORCED into it and divorced by a machete to the face.

Of course, it depends on the culture.

Re: Does Love Conquer All?

I didn't read the middle two pages of the thread, because Christmas Morning, who has time?

But Amor Vincit Omnia doesn't mean that love overcomes all obstacles. It means that love gets to everybody. The full line is, "Love conquers all things, so we too shall yield to love." Another translation reads, "Love conquers all. Let love then smile at our defeat."

Ainsi sera, groigne qui groigne.

Re: Does Love Conquer All?

Arranged marriages strike me as being more like business deals. Love generally has very little to do with it.

I love professional-wrestling.

Re: Does Love Conquer All?

I watched a Frontline bit about arranged marriages. "Machete" was not chosen at random.

PBS is about as reliable a news source as you're going to find coming out of America.

Re: Does Love Conquer All?

Even then, I am still...careful with it. But yeah, it's the only tv I allow myself to watch, for now (until GOT S5). Frontline, the McLaughlin Group, and their little assorted bios and docs. Good stuff. There's no such thing as impartial programming but they do balance it as best as I think anyone could. Leans to the left a bit, in recent years.
