Larry Bird is my favorite athlete all time so there may be some bias there. Bird was the better outside shooter by far. I think he barely has the edge in clutch moments and I get heat for this, but I think he is just as good of a passer. He was not a point guard so he didn't have near as many chances to show it. Both of their passing highlights are absolutely amazing and their IQ's of the game is ungodly. They were like Jedis out there seeing things unfold before they ever did. Bird was the better rebounder, but his position put him a position to have more chances. Bird was the better free throw shooter. Magic was better in the paint and a much better ball handler.

The only people who still hate Lebron are either jealous Kobe stans or nervous MJ stans.

Fair enough, It's pretty close.

Bird has the edge in shooting obviously and a slight edge in rebounding, while Magic was a much better passer (not that Bird was a bad passer, but Magic is the best ever in my book), and more versatile. People say LeBron can play five positions... Magic PLAYED five positions. Clutchness is a wash. So to me, it comes down to rings and head-to-head match ups... where Magic has the edge.

, he should never be compared to Jordan.

Jordan's performances in the finals>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Jordan never failed the way Lebron has in his career. Ever. So there is no reason to ever compare the two, he will never find the same type of success.

Strictly speaking as passers, Bird and Magic were capable of the same things. The major difference between Magic and damn near everyone is how he saw the game and knew where everyone would be on the court. His court vision and playmaking ability is unparalleled and combined with his ability to make any type of pass and ballhandling skills, he was able to run some of the best and most efficient offense of all time.

It doesn't hurt that those Lakers and Celtics teams were stacked with hall of famers.

They called him the Lion of Lannister to his face...

...and whispered "Kingslayer" behind his back

If we are looking at the body of work with passing, then Magic easily wins, but looking at highlights Bird is a lot closer to him that he gets credit for. Both of them had an unmatched understanding of the game and took team basketball to a new level. Magic sure did play all 5 positions. I am still in awe of him winning a championship as center. No doubt that head to head Magic does have the edge. I do think that the 85-86 Celtics were the best team between them in the 80's, though.

I will keep the "what if's" out of the actual debate, but would love to hear your opinion on this scenario. What if Bird hadn't injured his back shoveling his driveway and Len Bias hadn't overdosed? I personally think that the head to heads would have lasted a few more year.

I feel that Bird's court vision was easily up there with Magic's. His ball handling skills were not and with Magic being point guard his highlight reel will be much longer. I am not denying that.

I'd say Isiah probably wouldn't have won that first ring. And if migraine headaches didn't keep Scottie Pippen out of Game 7 vs. Pistons in '90, he wouldn't have won the second either.

On a side note, Michael Jordan should have ten rings. That's why it's hard for me to take vs. Kobe and vs. LeBron arguments too seriously.

Definitely 8 with little room at all for debate. I hated the Pistons and can remember just feeling Jordan's frustrations. When you say 10 rings are you referring to the ones the Pistons won or if Jordan would have played longer.

As far as the Celtics go. A lot would have depended on how great Bias would have turned out. He improved so much so quick in his last year at Maryland, He could have given Bird and McHale some rest and they wouldn't have had to play so many minutes. No way to know, but fun to guess.
