Re: Music type/preference generalization

I thoroughly dislike the term 'emo' as a description for a person. 'Emo' is an offshoot of a genre of music referred to as emotional hardcore, populated by bands such as Far, Quicksand, Braid et al. I wish people would stop bastardising the 'emo' term like this.

Re: Music type/preference generalization

My musical tastes are all over the place. A sampling of some of the tuneage I enjoy and most people have NFI where to classify me.

Re: Music type/preference generalization

There is absolutely nothing wrong with seeing how someone dresses/acts and assuming that they like a style of music. Our fashion is heavily dictated by pop culture and so its usually a fairly accurate generalisation. However its one thing to assume someone listens to a certain genre of music, but its another entirely to judge someone based on their musical tastes.

For example, take the pic of Ice Cube in the OP.

Now he is a rapper, but even if you didn't know that by the way he dresses you would assume he is into hip hop, r&b etc. Now say you find out he's listening to Katy Perry, Taylor Swift etc. It goes against your assumption so you might say something like "i didn't know you listened to Katy Perry" which is fine. However if you said something like "you're listening to katy perry? you fag" then thats stupid.

Re: Music type/preference generalization

Any assumption of the sort is only done by ignorant morons. Simple as that. I was called a certain offensive homosexual slur that begins with "F" one day because I was wearing a Lady Gaga shirt. I laughed at their meaningless existence and told them to fuck off. Because "god" forbid a heterosexual dude like myself can love Lady Gaga & dance/pop music in general. I'll wear an Iron Maiden shirt and jeans and still want to listen to heavy dance tunes because that's what I like. Society is filled with bs. Got to look past it.

Don't think i've ever seriously insulted a person based on them liking a chick singer. Would be pretty hypocritical considering i have Katy Perry on my mp3 player.

Re: Music type/preference generalization

I hate when people say shit like "if you listen to Pink Floyd, you can't listen to dance music" (I've actually had that said to me), I mean what the actual fuck? Are you really gonna limit yourself like that? Idiots. I don't give a shit about genres or stereotypes, I just like music. Browse through my collection and you'll find everything from Deadmau5 to Black Sabbath to Leonard Cohen to The Smiths. Listen to whatever the fuck you want.

Faith No More are one of the greatest bands the world has ever seen. 'Angel Dust' and 'King For A Day...' are true classics. Best ever? Pfft no.
