Just a thought.

I can only surmise that posting this in the rants section will set myself up for stupid/smartass remarks more than an active discussion on the topic, but I didn't know where else to post this. I don't know if this qualifies as a rant or not since i'm not pissed in any conceivable way, just concerned about what i'm going to discuss.

First of all, I know how the internet works, more specifically internet Forums. You have folks from all walks of life playing keyboard warrior and trying to make a name for themselves in the most perfunctory of ways. This isn't limited to Wrestling Forums, it's a rule of thumb for Forums in general.

What i've noticed from WF that is more prelevant here than anywhere else is the encouragement of thoughtless babble. I'll sometimes come across people with intelligent, well thought out posts/threads that get completely ignored and drowned out by pointless bickering over things that have been discussed incessantly. The well thought out and thought provocative ideas end up getting lost in the shuffle rather quickly.

I'm not talking about sections like "rants" where it's encouraged to be a dick, this applies mostly to topics in the regular sections that have potential to spark detailed discussion but fails to do so due to people's reluctance to participate.I'm not going to throw in any example by using specific names, as i'm not making this to perpetuate personal drama. This doesn't apply to everyone, but i've noticed alot more pointless comments/threads being created lately.

Is it due to the fact that most of the prolific posters on here ran out of original stuff to talk about? Is it because they have little meaningful to contribute? If it because short sentence/paragraph limited comments are easier to read and extensive ones are too tedious to get into?

My guess if that alot of people unable or gave up on trying to discuss Wrestling (or any other topic on this Forum) in an intelligent way, and they're just throwing out popular opinions in hope to get another green rep. Others have been on here for years, and use this Forum moreso as a place to shoot the shit with their e-buddies.

Tell me what you guys think, do you think I have a point, or am I just talking out of my ass? Could this Forum benefit from a more thoughtfully active community, or are things fine the way they are?

Re: Just a thought.

There are a few really passionate and intelligent posters who will continue to post in the wrestling sections regardless of the sewer of shit that seems to engulf any kind of common sense and rationality. The only reason I can imagine that they persist with the wrestling sections is because of their sheer love for the buisness and the fact that the few intelligent wrestling section veterans seem to have built up a strong comradery over time.

Personally I can't be bothered to post or even lurk in the wrestling sections anyomore for a couple of reasons: (1) Wrestling is beyond tedious as a whole (to me) right now and I have better things to do with my time. (2) There are far too many trolls, retards and butt hurt marks that combine together to make an intolerable unholy trinity. My passion for wrestling has waned far too much for me to want to deal with that triumvate of shit. The stupidity obviously doesn't just exist in the wrestling sections (some real retardedness goes down in the Anything section, for example) but it's definitely the home of the main culprits.

I'd like to think that when I did post in the wrestling sections I only posted when I felt there was something worthy to add, or even to continue an already excellent discussion. So many people on here feel like they need their opinion heard on every subject, maybe it's down to needing attention? I would go as far as saying that a good ninety percent of the posts in the wrestling sections are pointless guff that add absolutely nothing to the 'conversation'. If I had the mentality of many other posters (especially fellow 11ers and 12ers) then my post count would be well into the thousands already. Many posters on here are more interested in shoving their opinions down other people's throats than having a rational debate, most threads are just a rapid succession of unlinked word vomits rather than a continuously flowing conversation.

The only reason I stay active on these forums (before somebody asks!) is because I like to lurk in rants (the one place where retardedness is relevant and bordeline acceptable) and there is an excellent Euro 2012 thread that's currently active. The strength of next season's premier league discussion may or may not keep me around long term considering I'm going to be busy embarking on a three A level access couse next September.

I can only speak for myself when trying to come up with an explanation for your question, I'm sure there is potentially a multitude of different reasons or opinions as to why these forums are so tedious at times (reading my tl;dr posts probably doesn't help to be fair).

The Pro Graps sections are the dirt worst.

Re: Just a thought.

I too now tend to stay mainly in Rants, the amount of fucktardness in the wrestling sections is beyond comprehension. The threads that get started there on a daily basis is insane. At least with Rants there are a few posters who can make some decent posts then there are others who are so dumb you have to enjoy their posts (you know who you are), also along your thought of paragraphs, there are far too few good long posts and too many tl;dr, like a paragraph takes that much time to read, videa game section is probably the most sane section of the forum imo

Re: Just a thought.

TL;DR OP just kidding

I think you have some valid points and I personally can't really explain why so much of the wrestling sections is just complete shit, but AndreBaker's post pretty much sums up why. I personally keep active in the wrestlign section b/c of my general love for the business and as shit as most of the wrestling section posts are, WF is still the best palce to discuss wrestling on the internet that I have found. And if you know how to sort through all the shit there are actually some good posters to read in the wrestling section.

This is one of my favorite things about this site. I can read a thread title and see how many pages are in it and I know that if I skip to the last page, there is about a 75% chance it isn't about the original topic and it's been transformed into some retarded discussion with youtube music videos added in and pictures of Pokemon and Power Rangers. I think it's great. I rarely go into the wrestling sections at all anymore, although there are times when I post in there.

Agreed with this. At least in the sports section you get some intelligent discussions. The Pro Graps section is just filled with a bunch of mongs. Something needs to be done.

Agreed. There are plenty of excellent posters in all the football threads. It's basically the only reason i'm still around.
