Re: What would Beethoven think of today's music?

In actual answer to the question, I think he'd be shocked at the sheer number of different genres and what passes for "popular music" these days. He might also be disappointed at the lack of "true" instruments being used in popular music. As for the new genres I could see him liking, I'd think he'd appreciate Jazz/Classical and the like, Soft Rock such as Coldplay and U2, maybe some R&B, maybe even Neo-Soul, and the lyrical aspect of Hip-Hop, but not the musical content. Pop music, especially the "Tween Pop" style, would most likely horrify him, as would most Rock sub-genres apart from the one I mentioned earlier. He'd label all that as pure noise. Somehow, I can't see him approving of Country, either. He'd probably deride it as "uncivilized folk music," seeing it as similar to music played by other cultures in his time.

He would be fine

Most of the famous Classic composers and writers wrote for the lowest common denominator, that's what made them "revolutionary"

They wrote things that even poor and uneducated people could enjoy

Bigger question is what would today's commercial artists think if they ever heard Beethovan? (besides I gotta sample this!)

Flex, you're one of the few enjoyable posters on this forum but come on. :P

I'm certain he'd be appalled at mainstream music but for every mainstream artist, I can show you much better musicians like these:

Wha!...Well,SOMEBODY thinks he's better than everyone else. Mr. haughty elitist snob, you do know that the quality of music is entirely subjective , right? Riiiiiight?

Don't impose your standards on everyone else! You're overgeneralizing! Have you ever gotten laid? What an ego you must have.

Lil Wayne is probably the most talented singer today. I mean God, look at how many people like him!

You can't think logically!

Re: What would Beethoven think of today's music?

Beethoven would have been the Master of the Cat Daddy had he been alive now.

In all seriousness, I would venture to say that he would hate how music has been bastardized and souless these days as music for certain artists just don't mesh with each other. Music is no longer an art to most. It's a business. Plus, no doubt the mindless artist would try and persuade Beethoven to input on their "material" or have him be the "inspiration" of their content.

What the fuck ever.
