Yes, that's true...but most "kids" that listen to Mainstream rap these days, aren't very smart to begin with. Most posers out there follow along with Mainstream, and can't recognize TRUE rap. They just try to follow examples acting all thuggish and shit, and the only good rappers they've ever listened to are Pac, Biggie, etc. because those are the only good rappers they're exposed to...and they think that's the "cool" thing to do.

All you mofos out there who say ALL rap sucks are just making assumptions. Listen to some modern underground material (Rass Kass, Immortal Technique, Madlib, MF Doom, Necro, C-Rayz, Papoose, etc.)

Re: Rap

I don't have a problem with any type of music, I'll listen to Bluegrass, Rap, Rock ect and if you think about it each type of music has it's good sides and it's bad side and if you don't like a certain type of music than don't listen to it no one's forcing you to listen to it

^^^Talib Kweli, Common, and Mos Def aren't mainstream...I think they're 'commercial' or something.

To be mainstream means to be commerical, which those guys are. I like them because they rap about the same issues Public Enemy rapped about

Re: Rap

No, but there is a difference. Look at this way, 50 Cent is mainstream and Common is commercial. 50 cent has more fans and such.

Re: Rap

Mainstream means it follows the sound/style that the mass amount of it's genre caters to.

Commercial just means it's marketable.

There's your life's lesson for the day.

^^ I AGREE WITH THAT GUY! ^^
