Backstage News & Rumours

On Raw last night we saw Randy Orton seemingly attempt to convince Batista to t...t him heading in to the triple threat match for the WWE Championship with Triple H at the Survivor Series. They were forced to team together against Ted DiBiase & Ezekiel Jackson, and they came through it without any tension between them.

The initial belief was that this was all an angle that would lead to Orton keeping Batista on side going in to Survivor Series before catching him off guard, but we’re now hearing that Orton may well be in line for a face turn with The Animal supposedly leaving the company in the New Year. There is a split in creative as Batista’s departure would still leave The Undertaker & The Big Show as two top faces on the brand, and if Orton was to turn, that would leave just Triple H as the main heel as we understand that John ‘Bradshaw’ Layfield will be leaving after the Survivor Series.

There is also a lot of talk surrounding The Undertaker’s future as it’s being mentioned that he will soon be leaving the company too, maybe after WrestleMania. This hasn’t been confirmed, where it’s all but confirmed that Batista & Layfield will be leaving. If The Undertaker does retire, some members of the creative team believe that Orton would be a better long term top level face than The Big Show. Apparently Orton isn’t opposed to the plans and is open to a change in his character. We’re hearing that no decision will be made until after the Survivor Series.

We mentioned last week that there was some interest from the WWE in signing Jay Lethal after his release from TNA, and now we can confirm that he has signed a contract to join the company very soon. We also understand that he will head straight up to the main roster, although it’s not been decided as yet to which brand he will go to.

It’s also been confirmed to us that Brian Danielson, Awesome Kong & ODB will all be making their debuts in the next few weeks. It’s believed that Danielson will be going to Smackdown, however there’s still a decision to be made between where Kong & ODB go. We believe that both will work as heels and that one will go to each brand. It’s just a decision of which diva goes where. There’s some concern for the Raw diva roster right now and the belief is Kong should go there as Smackdown have Michelle McCool already, and in addition to that, Katie Lee will be receiving a strong push along with Natalya very soon.

We saw The Bella Twins on their own last night without Cody Rhodes & Joe Hennig. We’ve been told that they’ve been split so they can both focus as separate units. Rhodes & Hennig are being groomed to be the top heel team in the company moving forward.
