Re: WWE: The Evolution Of Greed

~Friday Night Smackdown~
February 16th, 2007
Seattle, Washington

The last stop before No Way Out sees the Superstars of Smackdown gearing up for the first single brand pay per view of the year with all eyes set on the three men involved in the World Heavyweight Championship picture.

Last week, the 2007 Royal Rumble winner Edge shocked the world by appearing on Smackdown, interrupting 'The Green Bay Loudmouth' Mr. Kennedy and declaring that he would be challenging the World Heavyweight Champion, whomever it may be come Wrestlemania XXIII. After winning a Number One Contender's Match with The Undertaker, albeit thanks to a huge assist from King Booker, Kennedy now goes on to face Batista for the gold this Sunday. Tonight, both men are in non-title action, with Kennedy scheduled to battle United States Champion Chris Benoit while Batista will face the man who handed Kennedy his title opportunity, King Booker. But so many questions surround the champion and the challenger. What role will Edge, the x-factor in the equation play? 'The Rated-R Superstar' has vowed to explain his decision last week as he addresses the Smackdown faithful. Will either Batista or Kennedy gain a measure of momentum ahead of this Sunday? What will Edge have to say on his first night back? And what of the mysterious phone call Ric Flair made to 'The Animal' last Monday on Raw? Will we get the answers? Or will the answers have to wait until this Sunday at No Way Out?

After over a month of challenging 'The Deadman', will tonight finally be the night King Booker finds out if he gets his long wished match with The Undertaker? Many people have wondered if Booker signed his own death warrant with his actions over the last month or so, and things could get a whole lot worse for 'The King' after his actions last week. With no match between the two yet announced, tonight could be the night we finally discover if 'The King' and 'The Deadman' will collide at No Way Out.

While Chris Benoit will be facing Mr. Kennedy this evening, his mind will no doubt be on his upcoming battle with Finlay for the United States Championship. After weeks of brawling around arenas, the two veterans are set to meet this Sunday at No Way Out with the gold on the line. What kind of shape will Benoit be in after his match with Kennedy tonight? And will Finlay be able to gain himself an advantage ahead of the title encounter this Sunday?

And while Benoit and Finlay are set to meet at No Way Out, the winner of this match will also know their Wrestlemania opponent come No Way Out’s end, when Kane, Matt Hardy, Montel Vontavious Porter and The Miz meet in a fatal four way, the winner being named the Number One Contender to the United States Championship. In preparation for this, MVP is set to host the first ever ‘V.I.P Lounge’, where we’ll hear from all four competitors.

Gregory Helms may not be in action tonight, but he’ll get a good look at six of the nine men he faces this Sunday at No Way Out, as Chavo Guerrero, Daivari and Joey Mercury team up to take on Shannon Moore, Scotty-2-Hotty and Jimmy Wang Yang. Tonight also marks the first ever appearance of the much heralded Bryan Danielson. For weeks his arrival on Smackdown has been hyped, and tonight, Danielson finally arrives on out screens. Although not competing tonight, Danielson will be determined to make his presence felt on Helms and the rest of the cruiserweight division ahead of his debut in the Cruiserweight Gauntlet this Sunday.

And finally, with two tag team matches scheduled for this Sunday, the teams collide in singles actions. The Bluebloods and The Extremists are set to meet in six man action, prompting Tommy Dreamer and Paul Burchill to square off tonight, both men looking to give a boost to their team ahead of this Sunday. WWE Tag Team Champions The Hooligans are set to defend their titles against La Resistance, and with Brian Kendrick and Rene Dupree going at it this evening, a win for Dupree would give his team a huge advantage ahead of the title match.

All this and more during the last Friday Night Smackdown before No Way Out!!
