Re: WWE: The Evolution Of Greed
~Friday Night Smackdown~
January 26th, 2007
The final stop on The Road to the Rumble runs through Mobile, Alabama with many Smackdown Superstars looking to make one final point two days away from the first pay per view of 2007, The Royal Rumble.
One man certainly looking to prove a point is the World Heavyweight Champion Batista. After many people questioning the health of The Animal due to the vicious shillelagh assault he suffered at the hands of Finlay two weeks ago, Batista will want to put on a strong showing as he and Finlay meet in the ring tonight just 48 hours away from their World Heavyweight Championship clash. However, the two will meet tonight in tag team action, as Batista teams with The Undertaker to take on Finlay and King Booker in tonight's main event. In recent weeks a rivalry has been slowly building between Booker and The Deadman, with The King demanding on numerous occasions he meet The Deadman in the ring. Tonight, Booker gets his wish, but which man will push themselves forward as an early Royal Rumble favourite? And will it be Champion or Challenger who gives themselves a huge momentum boost ahead of the title match this Sunday?
Revenge is also a topic on the mind of Matt Hardy and Joey Mercury as the bitter rivals meet one last time. Since Armageddon where Mercury suffered the horrific injuries that put him on the shelf, to his return to Smackdown at the beginning of the year, to last week when the pair met in tag team action, much blood has been spilled between these two. Therefore, Smackdown General Manager Teddy Long has decided that there can only be one way to settle things between Hardy and Mercury once and for all... first blood! When Hardy and Mercury meet tonight, the only way to win will be to make your opponent bleed. With the both men having tasted their own blood in the past, their final battle will see blood spilled one last time, with the winner no doubt pushing themselves into contention for victory in the Royal Rumble.
Another man determined to show why he should be a favourite for victory this Sunday is Mr. Kennedy. Ever since Kennedy declared his entry in the Royal Rumble match, Kennedy has preached that winning the Rumble is his destiny, and that it's time for the older stars on Smackdown to step aside as new blood like Kennedy makes his move to the top. Tonight, Kennedy faces Royal Rumble veteran Kane, with both men determined to show they have what it takes to headline Wrestlemania 23.
Also, United States Champion Chris Benoit takes on the brash, arrogant Miz in non title action, which no doubt will have the challenger to the US Title, Test, looking on. The Hooligans and The Extremists meet, and despite the WWE Tag Team Titles not being up for grabs, both teams will be gunning for the victory, with French-Canadian bombshell Maryse likely to have her say once again regarding London and Kendrick. After stern words from his Aunt Vickie last week, Chavo Guerrero marks his return to the Cruiserweight division as he takes on Shannon Moore, Jamie Noble and Jimmy Wang Yang in a fatal four way match, with Cruiserweight Champion Gregory Helms sure to be an interested viewer.
All this and the final entrant into the Royal Rumble match is revealed in an explosive Friday Night Smackdown, just 48 hours away from the Royal Rumble!!
