Default WWE: A New Dawn

BACKSTORY
In the weeks leading up to Wrestlemania 26, all seemed well. People enjoyed what they saw on TV, they were captivated by the colorful characters entertaining them every week, and they waited with eager anticipation for the arrival of the biggest show of the year. However, whilst this was the state of play in front of the cameras and in audiences homes, there was something entirely different going on backstage, trouble was brewing.

Wrestling dirt sheets hadn't even picked up on it, but rest assured they were there. Budget, and funding problems, lots of them. Vince McMahon had made a speech to his advertisers stating that he was going to make the product "edgier" and "take more risks" after Wrestlemania. This was not what the advertisers wanted to here, and many of them pulled out. This left him with alot of trouble to deal with, as suddenly he needed money, and fast. First thing he had to do was take out some of his broadcasting, he knew that would save him enough money to keep the company going. So, on February 24tth, Vincent Kennedy McMahon came out live on Monday Night Raw and announce the closure of Friday Night Smackdown, as well as the developmental NXT on the 24th April 2010. This would leave only one brand. With this would come many releases from the company, but a few new names were drafted in.

Along with this announcement, Vince McMahon received news backstage. He had heard that a mystery benefactor had offered to fund Monday Night Raw, as long as he was allowed to be made General Manager of the show. Vince, with no other options, granted his wish. So, on April 26th, the night after Extreme Rules, a new dawn in WWE will be born. The United States and Intercontinental Championships have been scrapped, as well as the Divas Championship. To replace these, two new titles have been created, The Television Championship and The Cruiserweight Championship. Each of these will be awarded for the first time at WWE Unified, a new PPV concept created to herald the arrival of this new era. Yes, it seemed that on April 26th everything was going to change, and wrestling fans all over the world knew it.

Onscreen, things had been building up to this change for a while, from Wrestlemania onwards. Jack Swagger had won the Money In The Bank and cashed it in on Chris Jericho a week later. However, at Extreme Rules in a triple threat steel cage match also featuring Edge, Jericho won his title back. Meanwhile on Raw John Cena triumphed over Batista and retained his WWE Championship. Rey Mysterio and CM Punk's rivalry had only heated up in this time, growing more and more intense every week, and Sheamus destroyed Triple H at Extreme Rules, putting him on the shelf for months. Now, with these brands uniting, all these heated relationships will have to find a way to operate together. New alliances could be formed and new rivalries could be created, especially with new superstars joining the company from rival promotions, and most of all the wild card that is the new mystery general manager.

But rest assured, the general manager has assured he will reveal himself on this historic April 26th edition of Monday Night Raw, and Vince McMahon assures us that we could never see it coming.
