The setting… Pay Per View! WCW returns once again to Pay Per View this Sunday, with Souled Out! Join ‘The Voice of WCW’ Tony Schiavone and ‘The Professor’ Mike Tenay at ringside for all of the great WCW action! But first, here is a rundown of your WCW Souled Out card!
Booker T © vs. Scott Steiner- WCW World Heavyweight Championship
Booker T and Scott Steiner both are two wrestlers who have quite a bit in common. Both men first became household names in wrestling by tagging up with their brothers. Booker T became one of the most decorated tag team wrestlers in WCW history in the team of Harlem Heat with his brother, Stevie Ray. Scott Steiner and his brother, Rick, won Tag Titles in just about every promotion they ever wrestled in! However, over time, each man grew into the singles division of WCW, won the TV Title, the United States Title, and then eventually, the World Heavyweight Championship. During the spans of their careers, Booker T and Scott Steiner have become no strangers to each other in the ring. Both men share multiple wins over the other, and know the strengths and weaknesses of the other man.
Lately, Scott Steiner has been out on a rampage. He, along with Jeff Jarrett and Mike Awesome, have been trying to run over WCW with their new alliance together. Their goal is to take control of the company and reign supreme, and one of their main targets has been the WCW World Heavyweight Championship, Booker T! Big Poppa Pump was the reigning WCW World Heavyweight Championship for all of 2001 until March 26, when Booker T defeated him on the Night of Champions edition of Monday Nitro to win the WCW World Heavyweight Championship for a fourth time. Steiner was a part of a triple threat match at Slamboree for the WCW World Heavyweight Title, but wasn’t involved in the decision. Booker T pinned Diamond Page to retain the title. Big Poppa Pump has been furious that he has never gotten a fair, one-on-one contest with Booker T for the WCW World Heavyweight Championship. But after defeating Booker T on the 08/08 edition of Wednesday Nitro, with the assistance of a lead pipe, Steiner is getting his one-on-one rematch for the WCW World Heavyweight Championship. This promises to be an action-packed and exciting World Heavyweight Championship match, as always in World Championship Wrestling! It will be Booker T versus Scott Steiner at Souled Out, one-on-one!
Hugh Morris vs. Lance Storm- Ladder Match- WCW North American Championship
Lance Storm claimed he was the Canadian National Champion. Hugh Morris claimed he was the United States Champion. WCW President Eric Bischoff vacated and abolished both Titles, and created the North American Championship! And the first champion will be either Hugh Morris or Lance Storm; whoever climbs up a ladder and gets the title first! All of the drama around the United States and Canadian National Titles started back in May. Eric Bischoff announced a tournament to crown a new United States Champion, which ended up with Lance Storm pinning Hugh Morris to win the United States Title. However, earlier on at a previous Nitro, Storm said he refused to wrestle for the US Title, and was wrestling for the Canadian National Championship. After winning the tournament, Lance Storm threw down the US Title belt, and refused to accept it. This led to Hugh Morris eventually carrying the belt off with him. Morris proclaimed that Lance Storm forfeited his spot in the United States Tournament, and therefore, Hugh was the rightful United States Champion. Amidst all the chaos, Eric Bischoff abolished both titles, and put a more continental championship in place; the North American Title. Now, both Hugh Morris and Lance Storm will meet in the ring on pay per view once again, but this time, the stakes are even higher. Once again, they will be fighting for a vacant championship, but this time, they will be fighting for the title in a ladder match! Which man will be able to climb the ladder to glory, and to the North American Title? Order Souled Out to find out!
Shane Helms © vs. Chavo Guerrero Jr.- WCW Cruiserweight Championship
Shane Helms has been a cruiserweight on a roll in 2001. Shane Helms won the WCW Cruiserweight Championship back at the Greed pay per view in March, coincidently from Chavo Guerrero Jr., and hasn’t lost the belt since. Shane has beaten Guerrero, Evan Karagias, and Shannon Moore so far to retain the title, and all other opponents thrown in his way! This Sunday at Souled Out in the Spectrum, Shane Helms will look to once again put the challenger down on the canvas with his deadly Vertebreaker to retain his WCW Cruiserweight Championship. However, Helms will not have an easy time accomplishing that feat. Chavo Guerrero Jr. is a two-time WCW Cruiserweight Champion, and has victories over Helms at Sin, and also on the 08/08 edition of Wednesday Nitro. Will Guerrero be able to cheat his way to victory this Sunday at Souled out, or will Shane Helms stay on top of the cruiserweight division? Order Souled Out to find out!
Filthy Animals (w/Tygress) vs. KroniK- Unification of WCW Tag Team Championships
In one corner, you have the WCW Tag Team Champions, KroniK. In the other, you have the Filthy Animals, the WCW Cruiserweight Tag Team Champions. Well, one half of the Cruiserweight Tag Team Champions. Billy Kidman and Rey Misterio Jr. were the reigning Cruiserweight Tag Team Champions, and racked up a successful defense over the Yung Dragons at Slamboree, when afterwards, they were attacked by the new WCW Tag Team Champions, KroniK! Bryan Clarke and Brian Adams did a number on Billy Kidman and Tygress, but the man taking the most amount of pain, was Misterio. KroniK slammed Misterio from the ring, over the top tope to the outside, through a table, to the concrete floor, with a High Times. Misterio suffered a severe concussion and head damage, and has been hospitalized for almost thee months! The attack on the Animals would have continued at Slamboree, but fellow Animal, Konnan, came down with a steel chair and chased KroniK off. KroniK later revealed they attacked the Animals to show they were the best tag team in WCW, and the cruiserweights didn’t deserve their own tag belts. KroniK challenged the Filthy Animals to a Tag Title Unification match at Souled Out, and the Animals accepted. However, Konnan will be replacing Rey Misterio Jr., as Misterio is physically unable to compete, and is supposedly still hospitalized.
This Sunday at Souled Out, the battle will be very heated between KroniK and the Filthy Animals. KroniK fights for tag team dominance, while the Filthy Animals fight to avenge the attack on a friend. Both teams do not want to lose this match, and have all their pride at stake in this contest. Will KroniK be able to solidify their status as the number one tag team in WCW, or will the Filthy Animals, Kidman and Konnan, be able to get revenge on KroniK and win the Tag Titles for what they did to Rey Misterio Jr.? This is a match that you are definitely not going to want to miss, so be sure you order Souled Out this Sunday to find out who will walk away with all the gold!
Jeff Jarrett and Mike Awesome vs. Ric Flair and Sting- Eric Bischoff is Special Referee
Jeff Jarrett, Mike Awesome, and Scott Steiner have been on a mission the past month and a half in World Championship Wrestling. Their mission? To reign supreme over everyone in WCW. To do that, The Chosen One has recruited Mike Awesome to help them gain supremacy, and together, the three men have targeted Booker T, and also, The Nature Boy, Ric Flair. Ric Flair and Jeff Jarrett have been intertwined in a blood feud since May of this year, with Jarrett calling Flair and his legacy fake. Jarrett has attempted to embarrass the Ric Flair name countless times, and has also physically attacked Flair at any chance he has had. Of course, when Jarrett attacked, the number were normally in his favor, or it was a sneak attack. One example of this would be when Mike Awesome helped him attack Flair, and led to Awesome putting The Nature Boy through the announcers table with an Awesome Bomb.
The three man unit of Awesome, Jarrett, and Steiner continued to dominate Booker T and Ric Flair throughout time, and back on August 15, it looked like they were about to destroy Flair and Booker T for good. However, the return of one man stopped them in their tracks. That one man, was Sting. Sting made his return to WCW from the rafters, and fought off all three men. The next week, Eric Bischoff, who has also become an enemy of this three man unit, booked this tag team match. Bischoff went a step further though, naming himself the referee for this match. Bischoff hasn’t liked how Awesome and Jarrett have shown no respect for referees, and wants to try and deal a blow to Awesome, Jarrett, and Steiner since they have named him an enemy. Jeff Jarrett and Mike Awesome cannot afford to lose this match this Sunday at Souled Out if they want to try and take over this company and be the dominant force, so they are going to try and do everything in their power to win this match. Ric Flair and Sting do not want to take a loss to the young punks, Jarrett and Awesome, and will be looking to use their experience and talent in the ring to get the victory. Who will walk out of Souled Out the winner of this big tag team match? Order the pay per view to find out!
Chuck Palumbo and Sean O’Haire vs. Totally Buff
In a match that was added to the card just last Nitro, Chuck Palumbo and Sean O’Haire will face Totally Buff, Buff Bagwell and Lex Luger. Over the past month, these two tag teams have met in the ring twice. In the first match, Totally Buff walked away the winners, but in the second affair, Chuck Palumbo and Sean O’Haire were the ones getting their hands raised in victory by the referee. In order to find out just who is the better team, WCW President Eric Bischoff has ordered these two teams to meet in the ring this Sunday at Souled Out, to find out who is the better team! Will the veteran team of Lex Luger and Buff Bagwell be able to get the win and climb their way up the ranks of the tag team division? Or will Palumbo and O’Haire pick up the decisive victory and get closer to challenging for the WCW Tag Team Championship? Find out by ordering Souled Out!
Alex Wright vs. Cal Anderson
Cal Walker Anderson is a man with high expectations to live up to. He is the nephew of the great Arn Anderson, as well as Ole Anderson. Cal has wanted to become a professional wrestler ever since he saw his favorite uncle, Arn, wrestle back so many years ago. After going through intense training by Arn and Ole, the newest Anderson is ready to make his impact in World Championship Wrestling! The New Enforcer will make his much anticipated WCW debut this Sunday night at Souled Out! If Cal Anderson was expecting an easy win in his first match in WCW, then he better think again! Cal Anderson’s opponent will be a former Television, Cruiserweight, and Tag Team Champion! This Sunday, the New Enforcer takes on “Das Wonderkin” Alex Wright! Wright hasn’t been seen in World Championship Wrestling for quite some time, but he is now back with WCW, and is hoping to score a big win this Sunday at Souled Out against the debuting Cal Anderson! Will the German sensation of Alex Wright be too much for the young rookie Cal Anderson, or will Anderson live up to his family name and get the victory at Souled Out this Sunday?
