Re: WWE: A Strong Response
RAW Preview – Monday 5th May 2008
Live From The Honda Center
THE GAME TO MEET THE BIG SHOW
After making a shocking return just 24 hours earlier, The Big Show stepped foot in a WWE ring again last Monday night as we saw the reformation of The Corporation. Mr. McMahon couldn’t have been happier having defeated Evolution at Backlash the night before with his sons, Shane & John “Bradshaw” Layfield, and he couldn’t hide his delight at adding the largest athlete in the world in to the mix. With Evolution unable to travel to Raw due to the injuries they sustained in the Non Sanctioned match, The Corporation had the comfort in not having to face up to the consequence of their recent actions, but that all changes this week. As they were leaving the arena, William Regal (Eric Bischoff’s Executive Assistant) caught up with them and advised them that this coming week, The Big Show will be going one on one with Triple H with every single member of Evolution & The Corporation barred from ringside. That is not all however, as this will also be a First Round match in the “Quest to be Champion” tournament that will see the winner take on Kane for the WWE Championship at the King of the Ring.
With this serious bounty placed in front of them, it promises to be one hell of a match when The Big Show returns to the ring this Monday night. Just who will come out on top and move towards a shot at the WWE Championship?
A BAD WEEK GETS WORSE FOR ORTON
Ever since losing the WWE Championship, Randy Orton has been on a mission to get it back. However at Backlash, he was unable to get his hands on the when with his previous actions came back to haunt him. Or to be more pacific, it was Mr. Kennedy that came back to haunt him. The Legend Killer may be regretting the needless punt to the head now after Kennedy returned the favour at Backlash, and especially after another chance to reclaim his title fell by the wayside last week. Eric Bischoff put the two of them in the first “Quest to be Champion” match, and Orton’s frustration proved to be the key as Kennedy came out on top after a steel chair shot intended for Kennedy rebounded off the ropes and in to the skull of Orton. Kennedy took advantage and wrapped up a huge victory to give Orton a further but even bigger headache.
One can only wonder how The Legend Killer is going to be when he arrives in Anaheim this week, but it’s safe to assume that a certain Green Bay native will be relatively satisfied with his week.
BACKLASH REMATCH FOR THE GOLD
It was a surprise to a lot of people when Paul London & Brian Kendrick left Backlash with the World Tag Team titles, but no one was more surprised than John Morrison & The Miz. The champions were in action last Monday night against The Colon Brothers, and this time it didn’t go so well, not to the surprise of Morrison & The Miz. A mistake by London allowed the brothers’ cool to pick up a big win, but the champs’ rivals weren’t far away to gloat. They didn’t hesitate in mocking London & Kendrick again, but there was another reason for their presence. It was announced that they would be meeting this week in a rematch from Backlash with the titles up for grabs once again.
Morrison & The Miz accused the champs of getting lucky at Backlash, but we’ll find out if it was luck or not when they compete for the gold live this Monday night.
IS IT KELLY’S TIME?
Backlash certainly was a night for shocks, but maybe the greatest shock of all was Kelly Kelly becoming the number one contender for the Women’s Championship having defeated Melina in a fatal fourway match. The girl-next-door like diva has had her fair share of problems lately with the problems between her boyfriend, Cody Rhodes, and her friend, the Intercontinental Champion, Kofi Kingston. It appeared that Kelly & Cody had come to the end of the road at Backlash after she walked out on his ultimatum to choose between wrestling and him. Cody’s appearance after the match was another shock as he raised her hand and left right after, confusing a lot of people. All seemed to be back to normal last Monday as Cody once again talked down to her, telling her it would be difficult for her to beat Victoria this week and become the new WWE Women’s Champion. Cody even found himself something better to do and left Kelly on her own, but she wasn’t to be on her own for long as Victoria stopped by to pass on her congratulations. However, she also told her challenger that as impressed as she was, the Women’s Championship is staying where it is.
Will that be the case? Can Kelly pull another rabbit out of the hat and become the new Women’s Champion? Find out this week when Raw comes to you live from The Honda Center in Anaheim, California.
DIBIASE JR TASTES DEFEAT – DOES HE CARE?
Two weeks back, Jim Ross commented that the then undefeated Million Dollar Champion, Ted DiBiase seemed to be slightly complacent in his victory over Hardcore Holly. The arrogant youngster didn’t waste a lot of time in addressing JR’s opinion, and he looked to set him straight by opening another challenge to anyone in the back at Backlash to compete for his Million Dollar title. It also didn’t take long however for DiBiase to slip back in to his complacent manner, and it was only thanks to the “Million Dollar Woman” Maryse that he defeated Jimmy Wang Yang. He was in the same care free spirit last Monday when he took on Finlay, and for the first time in his WWE career, DiBiase Jr suffered the bitter taste of defeat. It was only by disqualification, but it looks like the arrogance of this young man could dent his aspiration to go down as the greatest wrestler of all time. If JR’s opinion wasn’t enough for him, DiBiase Jr was given a pep talk after a surprise visit by his Hall of Fame father, Ted Sr, who told his son that JR was right and he has become complacent already. Despite telling his father he would change, it doesn’t look like he plans to after he accused him of being jealous over the success he has achieved already.
Just what is wrong with this kid? Will he ever learn?
We learnt last week that we will see the return of Rey Mysterio this coming week in his home state of California. One man who wasn’t so pleased with the news was Kenny Dykstra. Having lost to John Cena the night before, he wasn’t in the best of moods at hearing about Rey’s return. It could be quite a return for Rey on his first appearance since WrestleMania and his injury in the Money in the Bank ladder match.
The WWE Champion, Kane followed up his victory over Randy Orton by defeating the Intercontinental Champion, Kofi Kingston last week in what was a valiant effort from Kofi. What can we expect from the two gold carriers this Monday?
Cryme Time made sure The Colon Brothers didn’t enjoy their victory over the tag champions a week ago when they stole their clothes before Carlito & Eddie had chance to return to their locker room. They were told that there was an auction outside, and they were surprised and angry to see that Shad & JTG were selling their clothes to fans. It appears that these two teams can’t get along, and you have to wonder how the duo from Puerto Rico will react this week.
Jimmy Wang Yang was unlucky not to become the Million Dollar Champion at Backlash, but he made up for that disappointment by defeating Santino Marella last week. Needless to say it didn’t go down well with the Italian Stallion or his girlfriend Melina. She was confronted by Natalya Neidhart during the match, catching her off guard. Just what was that about? No one seems to know. We may find out when Raw heads to Anaheim for another blockbuster episode of Raw.
