You don't want an American accent, English accents have more character. Although i did always get a kick out of the Americans i knew at Uni, it was like we were speaking a different language at times.
My accent is pretty bad though, my own English friends even tell me to slow down and talk clearer because they can't understand a word i'm saying most of the time.
