Suicide Club (2002)

One of the first Asian "Horrors" I saw, and one that really got me really interested in the genre. It's not so much a horror as it is a social commentary on Japan. In it's high suicide rate and the disconnect from each other. So many bizarre scenes which at first glance don't make a whole lot of sense start to become clearer as you realize the message the movie is trying to send. This features some very gory parts including graphic scenes of a lady chopping her fingers off, the aforementioned 54 offing themselves, slit throats etc... Definitely not for the weak of heart, but it's so much fun to watch again after all these years and care about the message not just the gore which is all I remembered about it. To see what this surreal strange movie is all about, here's a fan video someone made.
(p.s for anyone interested the whole movie is available on YT as well.)
