I do enjoy recap shows a lot, and it is a talking point right now. I think full shows are more development tools, as recaps have so many more advantages to them. Okay, the opening promo was very good and it had the shock factor and mark out moment when Vince came out of nowhere and was the old style Vince, taking charge and making a huge main event. Totally right thing to do, and what a main event it should be
The return of the Cruiserweight Championship is a great call, and is it going to be on Raw? I think that would be an awesome decision, as in front of the hot live Raw crowd, they would get a better reaction for sure. London & Haas being an example of things to come is a great pairing if you ask me. London winning was no real shock in the opening match of the night, but are you splitting him and Kendrick?
Any new superstar needs mic time, and having Burchill talk is going to get a hundred times more attention from the fans than going out like a robot and squashing whoever is put in his way. Trying to talk down to Kennedy gives him the attitude he could use well in the future, and by building that up gradually, you could have a very promising mid card star. Kennedy not taking the bait was totally the way he would react. He may have been a bit more aggressive towards Burchill as a rookie talking down at him, but he was aggressive enough
Continuing the tag team angle on TV is something that I’m not so keen on, but with the only decent heel team being Carlito and Santino, I can enjoy this one a bit. Very good booking decision to have Carlito pick up the win for the challengers, although a little help from Santino would have got them more heat from the fans and really pissed off Holly. Still though, good match and booking
Two quick promos, but that’s what they would have been. Orton on a mission to take out challengers? Not sure, but suspense building angles like these are always constructive and result in a big climax. Jericho & Punk was a nice little filler going into their match later on. Simple and not really a lot to talk about there
Melina picking up the win here sets her up as a contender maybe to the title, which I believe is Mickie’s right now? I think that if you’re planning on giving Melina a shot at the title very soon, then it was the correct decision. But if you’re focusing on Mickie/Beth, I maybe would have had Beth pin Maria instead. Maria taking the fall though was also correct, as you said it yourself, she is the weakest diva in there
Okay, this was a pretty big mistake and something you have to look out for. After having Maria destroyed in a match, she is in the next segment interviewing Triple H as if nothing ever happened and she hadn’t been competing. Look out for things like that! Anyways, Trips was the typical Triple H we expect to see and gave all the right answers. We know he wouldn’t attack JBL, and you put it well, although some lines were quotes instead of in recap. No big deal
Orton having two in ring promos in one night, I’m not sure. Maybe you could just had Vince at the top of the show without Orton. Anyway, Orton revealing himself as the attacker came as no big surprise at all, but Cena coming down was. I liked that Cena put him in his place, but again it became quotes and full promos in a recap format. A No DQ match next week is big, but what about Triple H? I read it over and I get it now! It looks like Cena is being set up as the clear winner now as a match between him and Orton would be pointless unless he wins later on
Umaga and The Big Show is one match I’ve thought about myself lately as I’m curious as to how it would go. If you’re setting the foundations, it worked well as the DQ is obviously going to give The Big Show a real reason to come back firing at Umaga
Maria again showing no signs of the two neck breakers she received earlier on. I think splitting interviews between Maria and Grisham is the best thing to do, but when you have Toddy Boy available and Maria has been in a match, you should have definitely gone with Grish. Anyway, Cena said all the right things, but what match has he got tonight?
Shad was always going to come out on top of Cade. I’m not sure how this would go down so close to the end of the show, but Cryme Time are over, so I can see that working. Having them gain some momentum is always good as it seems sensible to build them up while Santino & Carlito start to get closer to the tag titles. Keeping Cryme Time on TV and looking strong will help them move right into a feud for the titles if that’s what you’re planning
A third tag team match of the night maybe pushing it a little. I loved Punk using the Anaconda Vice, I just think that although it was the real last moments of the match, Kennedy looked far too weak. Having Burchill take the fall would have meant nothing with Kennedy escaping before the fall. I do like the idea of the Backlash match as it isn’t all that clear cut like everyone else who books it just for the MITB and is clearly taking it off of Punk. You haven’t gone overboard with the Kennedy side of it, as it is very possible he could go back to Smackdown out of all this, so I’m digging that bro
I was shocked that HBK won this one as he was the only one not to get any time on the stick tonight. Cena’s match with Orton is pretty needless now as it should all be between HBK and Orton going into Backlash. Anyways, it was a great ending to the match and took me for surprise for sure
Overall, it was a very entertaining show. I think the Maria situation stood out for me as being a poor mistake to make. The small issues with 3 tag matches and the Cena/Orton match for next week aren’t too important, but there are some things I like. Despite Kennedy looking very weak tonight, his match with Punk is interesting. I also liked the handling of the tag title situation as well as the Umaga/Big Show feud. There’s potential there for sure, but you need to work on a few things that will come through experience
