Re: WWE 2005: A Fresh, New Start
Smackdown Review
Main events sounds awesome and I like that Angle is added after what happened to OJ last week … good way to give the match more star power.
Cabinet starting again?? I know that they own but they started last week and Cena starting the show would have worked better this week, imo. JBL is as arrogant as ever and continues to hype the match at the RR … and then Cena comes out!! No need for much back and forth and the faces taking it to the heels was good … but here comes Angle!! Undertaker takes out Angle and this was good build for the main event.
The Cabinet leaving Angle is interesting. I hope that he abandons JBL later on tonight and this could signal an Angle face turn.
London and Chavo had some good matches back in 2005 and London getting in the RR is big for his career. I hope he gets the push he deserves.
Tables match with RVD & Rey facing … STORM AND CREDIBLE!! This is huge, imo and it adds to a weaker division on SD. Good to see the champs win and this makes the Impact Players look a little weak but Dudleys taking out the champs was pretty good. I think this sends a message but I see RVD and Rey retaining at the RR.
As I’ve said before … Carlito back at the RR … dat’s cool.
Different way to get Jindrak some airtime but I guess interrupting Torrie is the heel thing to do. Booker coming out and calling him out was exciting and I guess we got a match next!!
Jindrak wins with a hook of the tights!! Kinda shocking but this may signal a moderate heel push for a very good young superstar.
Main event is gonna be explosive and I see Cena’s team winning.
Kidman should be the CW Champion, imo. But Funaki is OK but pinning BK after only a missed SSP is kinda lame.
Cena’s team wins after Cena pins one of the jobber Bashams … this mean JBL’s winning at the RR, imo. Would’ve like some altercation between the others in the match before the RR but the ending did it’s job … by getting over the biggest feud on SD.
This was another average recap, JBL. I liked most of it but it is very hard to review recaps and give insight. I know this was just to get to the RR, which I am really looking forward to. Good show, 7/10.

FINAL CARD for WWE Royal Rumble
Date: January 30, 2005
Location: Save Mart Center; Fresno, California
Theme Song: “Find the Real”; Alter Bridge
30 Man Royal Rumble Match
–WINNER RECIEVES MAIN EVENT TITLE SHOT AT WRESTLEMANIA 21–
Batista, Big Show, Billy Kidman, Booker T, Carlito, Christian, Chris Jericho, Danny Basham, Doug Basham, Eddie Guerrero, Eugene, Kane, Kurt Angle, Luther Reigns, Mark Jindrak, Muhammad Hassan, Orlando Jordan, Paul London, Rey Mysterio, Ric Flair, Rob Conway, Rob Van Dam, Shelton Benjamin, Shawn Michaels, Stevie Richards, Tajiri, Triple H, Tyson Tomko, The Undertaker, William Regal
There has not been a very big standout heading up to the match but that makes it interesting. I think that Christian being involved in Orton vs. Edge makes me think he is heading to the main event. I don’t see someone from SD winning because Cena vs. JBL will happen again at WM21, imo. Christian has a great chance and makes a lot of sense.
WWE Championship Match
John ‘Bradshaw’ Layfield vs. John Cena
As I have said in the review leading to this, Cena has had the advantage for the last three weeks. Cena was a great face in 2005 and he will get his time but I see it coming at WM21, not at a PPV where big title changes usually don’t happen. JBL to win with the help of the Cabinet.
World Heavyweight Championship Match
Randy Orton vs. Edge
This has been a very good feud but Orton just got the belt and I don’t see another short reign. Edge will put up a hell of an effort but Orton will retain via the RKO. This could lead to possibly a Triple Threat at WM21 … Orton vs. Edge vs. Christian, imo.
Intercontinental Championship Match
Shelton Benjamin vs. Chris Jericho
Shelton OWNED in early 2005 and I don’t see Y2J holding the IC Title heading into the WM. I think Benji wins, with Jericho turning into a full-time heel. He needs something bigger heading into WM21.
WWE Tag Team Championships Match
Rob Van Dam & Rey Mysterio vs. The Dudley Boyz
Rey and RVD are great champs and the Dudleyz have had the advantage lately. Holding the belts for a while pushes both Rey and RVD into the main event and this is the first of many big wins.
