Re: Official TNA DVD Help/Discussion/Review Thread
I'll go ahead and write a review for BFG 2007.
Awesome PPV. It was TNA's best PPV of 2007 and arguably their best ever. I thought it was great pretty much from top to bottom:
LAX vs. XXX: Ultimate X for Tag Title Shot - Fantastic match up. Some of the spots they did were just insane. Its one of the better UX matches that TNA has ever done. Star of the match was definately Hernandez.
Fight for the Right - A good filler match. The reverse portion was iffy, but had its moments. It got really good when it came down to a regular battle royal. For a filler match that served as a cheap excuse to cram guys onto the card, it actually wasn't half bad.
AJ/Tomko vs. Team Pacman for the Tag Titles - Surprisingly good match. Of course taking out Pacman Jones and putting in Consequences Creed. Creed did really well in there and had some good exchanges with AJ. AJ & Tomko played the faces which allowed AJ to use moves he hadn't used in a while. All in all, this could have been a sucky match, but it turned out to be really good.
Jay Lethal vs. Christopher Daniels for the X Title - My personal favorite X Division title match of 2007. It was very good. They came up with some great counters to each others moves, and the finish was really cool. One of the better matches on the show for sure.
Steiners vs. Team 3D in a Tables Match - Very intense brawl and the table spo9ts were very cool as well. One friend of mine felt that this was the match of the night. I thought it was probably the best built match on the card (except for maybe Joe/Christian) and it definately delivered.
TNA Knockout's Gauntlet to crown first TNA Women's Champion - This match served as a great showcase for some of the new talents that TNA brought in for the women's division. Awesome Kong was very impressive and so were a few others like OD, Roxxi, and Gail Kim. And of course the match resulted in the first TNA champ being crowned, so it has historical significance.
Samoa Joe vs. Christian Cage w/Matt Morgan as guest enforcer - Joe & Christian was my favorite pairing that TNA gave us in 2007. They had awesome matches every single time they faced and this was no exception. Another awesome match from these two greats, and I really liked that it wasn't a copy cat version of their previous bouts, which is always nice. Many people will probably say that this is the MOTN, and that is definately a fair assessment. It was very very good.
Abyss vs. Rhino vs. Black Reign vs. Raven in a Monster's Ball Match - It was basically just used as a filler match, but it was still fun, as Monster's Ball always is. I wish they had included Harris & Storm in this (who had feuds with Reign & Rhino respectively) but what can you do. Some of the spots were cool and the match was a nice addition to the show.
Sting vs. Kurt Angle for the TNA World Title - Fantastic match. This is my pick for MOTN, and it was a great way to close an already awesome PPV. If you're a fan of Kurt, Sting, or both, then definately pick up BFG just for this match as its arguably the best match for both guys since they came to TNA.
And on the BFG DVD, they have some extra features. Video of Kurt Angle stalking Sting's son which is alright. Some footage from the fanfest which was cool. And a photo gallery which is on a lot of TNA DVDs and I never look at them.
But if you want a great show on DVD, definately pick this one up because there are few TNA shows that are quite on the level of this one. There really wasn't anything on the show I didn't like except for a few backstage segments involving Nash, Sting, Karen, and Kurt, but you can skip over those (oh the magic of DVD!) BFG is without a doubt worth every cent.
