Re: JD SPUR Presents: Total Nonstop Action
JD Spur’s IMPACT Feedback
You reviewed my PPV a while back and I hadn’t seen anything to return it on until now, so here we go. I don’t watch much TNA, so forgive me if I’m not familiar with some of the personnel.
The opening line from Mike Tenay put me off from the outset, two spelling mistakes in one sentence, not a good start, Spell Check is your friend. Make sure you re-read your shows. Another error in Tenay’s second sentence is not a good way to get underway, it’s nit-picky I know but presentation matters. If your sentences flow, your show flows and it is easier to read because the readers don’t need to re-read to figure out what the hell he meant to say.
I’m not a big fan of promos kicking off Impact, particularly backstage promos. If you’re going to start the show with a promo, it should be in the ring, just my opinion though. Short promo from ‘Cide and Hernandez here, the content was okay as was the execution of it but I think it was a little strange that Hernandez spoke so much as generally you’d expect most of it to come from Homicide. The thing with Booker T was weird, you said he was “Walking down a Hallway” and then Borash called out to him then we cut straight back to the announce table? You really needed to add something more in after JB called out to Booker. I assume that Booker totally ignored JB? The reader can’t just assume that happened, the writer needs to note it. You should’ve said that “Booker totally blows off JB and continues on his way before the camera heads back to ringside” or something to that effect instead of just cutting straight back to Tenay and West, both of whom I hate btw, so the less of them the better!
Sonjay Dutt as X Division Champion is great, I’m quite the fan of his and this match is a great way to kick off the show. Lethal on commentary is interesting too, heel turn perhaps? This was a really solid match to kick off the show mate, it flowed pretty well for the most part and both guys come out of it looking solid. I assume that Dutt only won the X Title a few days ago? I feel it would’ve been good for him to pick up the win to maintain his momentum but this builds towards a feud between the two. XXX and Lethal’s involvement was good, I feared it was going to turn into a bit of a clusterfuck at one stage but luckily it didn’t. This definitely has me interested as to where things are going for the X-Title between Sonjay and Daniels because surely you’ll have to incorporate Lethal in there some how? None the less, great start mate.
More Booker T stuff, this was better than the first time. Booker seems pumped. I assume he’s going after Christian, but I’m not sure. Part of me hopes it’s someone else. I’m really not liking the commentary thus far mate. The spelling and particularly grammar has been riddled with errors.
Solid tag match here. The flow wasn’t as good as the first match but it was still a good read. I’m a fan of LAX but what exactly is the “Gringo Cutter”? The structure of this match was quite good as it had the “heel dominates face before face wins” mentality about it. So your booking gets a big tick here. It would’ve been good to see you go into as much detail with this match as you did with the previous match but Team 3D are hard to write. Good to see this match get a good amount of time.
Sting was pretty generic here, I wasn’t too high on it but he didn’t seem in character for the most part. So Sting will retire when he drops the title? That’s a good storyline to follow, great booking. This will be a great rub for whoever beats him, it’ll do wonders for their heel status if Sting loses in a real dusty fashion. The promo picked up with Kurt came out. His first line was priceless, typical Kurt. At some points he was a little off but for the most part you captured him spot on. All I know of Matt Morgan’s character is the stuttering lump he portrayed in WWE, he announcement here was huge although his character seemed pretty generic. Once again, spelling, grammar and sentence structure hampered this promo, definitely something that you need to work on. The content of this promo was great however, a little more length to it definitely wouldn’t have hurt.
I don’t care for Women’s wrestling on the best of days, let alone when I don’t even know who ODB is. It seemed a solid Women’s match, although I only skimmed it.
I didn’t like this promo at all to be honest. I thought it was a bit of a mess. It served its soul purpose though, I feel – in putting over how much Kurt wants the title. The content and story of this one was okay but the execution was poor, really poor to be honest. There wasn’t any flow in any of the lines and the sentence structure wasn’t great either.
TNA have signed another bUg name? Well that’s excellent for them! No seriously dude, you need to double check, re-read your promos in particular. Short stock standard GM Promo from Corny here. Solid announcement, I love the Hammerstein, as most people know so I’m all for TNA heading there, for a THREE HOUR special, no less. That’s awesome. Definitely looking forward to that. Tickets are on SALE by the way, not SELL.
At this point, I am wondering. Is this a two hour show or a one hour show, because we’re on to our fourth match now, and there’s still the Main Event. It doesn’t quite feel like a two hour show but it’s definitely longer than a one hour show. Clarify plz
Lol @ AJ & Tomko. I love AJ. What’s Kurt up to, though?
Abyss v Robert Roode doesn’t really appeal to me and at first I thought it was going to be a glorified squash for Abyss but thankfully it wasn’t. Your match writing ability seems to be fairly solid in your recaps, hopefully you can make the transition into full length matches too! Good to see this match get a good amount of time and once again the right man won, so your booking of matches continues to be solid for the evening. Your spelling and grammar hurt you again, however.
WOAH!!! RVD!! I’m a HUGE Van Dam fan and I love seeing him heel. It’s definitely not done enough. The beat down of Abyss with Rellik and the tacks was certainly a great way to establish RVD as a heel. I’ll be interested to see where you go with this though, because I’m sure you don’t want to halt Abyss’ momentum and I damn sure hope RVD doesn’t get off to a poor start in this thread. I’m thinking he might even turn face and align himself with his old buddies, Sabu and Rhino. Good segment, but I hate to sound like a broken record – Grammar errors hampered it again.
Okay in follow up to the previous segment we come into a HUGE interview with RVD himself and the first line reads; “Rob you just made an impressive impact out there, WHAT are you here?” That turned me off immediately despite my eagerness to hear what Van Dam has to say. This was a very hit and miss promo overall to be honest, I don’t think you captured RVD’s character particularly well nor did you provide an explanation of WHY he has come to TNA nor WHY he has aligned himself with James Mitchell and co.
Main Event time now. It’s a little bit strange that Kurt Angle has had so much exposure on the show tonight while the other three have had NONE. I definitely think this is a two hour timeslot now given the amount of time this match had, which is great. Good to see you go into such detail with each elimination too. Joe going first surprised me, I thought it’d be Killings. Cage kicking out of the Angle Slam made it look a little weak in my opinion. ANGLE IS OUT! Cage kicks out of the Angle Slam, then he eliminates Kurt!! Wholy shit! Didn’t expect that, good on you for having the balls to do it. Awesome way to do it to. The Truth wins? Fuck me dead. I certainly didn’t expect that, full props for doing something different and unexpected man, I love it! Although I certainly could have thought of a better Number 1 Contender. Part of me thinks that The Truth won’t end up in the match. Awesome match though mate, great read. It flowed pretty well and it definitely advanced a few storylines.
Overall mate, a really solid show. I enjoyed it a lot to be honest. Your promos were a little off, your character portrayal needs work as does their length but the content of most of them was quite good. The booking of this show was quite good too, probably the high light in my opinion as you made some very solid and gutsy decisions. Well done mate, a good start and I’ll definitely be back for the next show.
