Re: Official WWE DVD Help/Discussion/Review Thread
Austin101's "WWF Royal Rumble 1990" Review:
Tony Schavonne and Jesse are calling the action on PPV from Orlando Florida! Jesse's got the mickey mouse hat on...well at least Jesse is a great color guy!
1) The Bushwhackers (Butch Miller and Luke Williams) vs The Fabulous Rougeaus (Jacques and Raymond) (w/Jimmy Hart)
Decent tag team opener. The Rougeaus kind of carried the match like most teams did with the whackers, who lets face it aren't exactly ricky steamboat's in the squared circle. Butch pinned Jacques after the two hit the Battering Ram at 13:35.
Well...at least the fans were happy....with the result.

2) Brutus "The Barber" Beefcake vs The Genius
The only thing I hate worse then Brutus Beefcake and his whole gay act, dancing around the ring, his hair, his walk, his name, just all of it...is Gorilla or Tony or whoever calls his matches calling him "Bruti". I don't know. It's like nails on a chalk board for me. Anwyays Beefcake locked in a sleeper after referee Earl Hebner was knocked down and then went to cut The Genius's hair. After Mr. Perfect attacked Brutus, Hebner recovered and disqualified both men at 11:07. I wish I could fast forward this but I had to review it...oh well, "BRUITS" wont be around for much longer in my upcoming reviews...we can thank jesus h christ for that one.
3/4*
3) "Rugged" Ronnie Garvin vs Greg Valentine in an "I Quit" match
One of the most over looked, un-talked about matches in not only Rumble history, but PPV history. This was such a rough neck, hard nosed battle between two mid carders at the time and the crowd wasn't to hot, the bout lasted a long while and despite the hard shops and rough brawling there was good submissions as well. It was AFTER ALL a submission match pretty much since the rules were "I-Quit" and in those days you'd quit over a submission for the most part rather then 11 chair shots to the cranium. In the end Garvin forced Valentine to submit with a Reverse Figure Four Leg-lock at 16:55.
One of the most underrated matches ever.

An episode of the Brother Love Show aired and featured "Sensational" Queen Sherri and Sapphire. The two got into a heated argument and brawl. Randy Savage and Dusty Rhodes then joined them. Rhodes and Sapphire cleaned out the ring including Brother Love.
Worst, segment, ever.

4) "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan vs The Big Boss Man w/Slick
God why do most rumble PPV's undercard just suck up until 1993. Think about it? Does that make ANY SENSE. You'd think it'd be the other way around, here's why. The rule that the winner of the rumble goes to Wrestlemania came in effect in 1993. Yet the jobbers are saved for THOSE rumbles post 93, and before 93 there's STARS galore in a rumble match that has little implication. I'm puzzled. This match was just filler and was used to get the crowd ready for the royal rumble. The Big Boss Man was disqualified after hitting Jim Duggan with his nightstick at 10:26.

5) Main Event- "The 1990 Royal Rumble Match"
The year after Dibiase "bought" Entry #30, he came in at #1 and broke the longetivity record held at this point by Hennig, at 44:47 when he was eliminated by fan favourite the Ultimate Warrior. He was very over here and I guess was the pefect guy to eliminate Dibiase after how long he was in there.
Warrior got eliminated by Hogan, Rude and the Barbarion then RAN OFF to the back just like he RUNS to the ring.
In the end The final two participants were Hulk Hogan and Mr. Perfect. Hogan managed to throw Perfect over the top rope to win his first Royal Rumble match at 58:46. I heard Perfect was supposed to go over in this one or 1991 but Hogan refused, pretty sure it was this one given who the final two in the match were. Not a bad rumble at all though overall.

Final PPV rating for Rumble 90= 6/10
Once again Rumble's I rate generous for the fact they are Rumble's and rarely dissapoint. This had a couple good matches so it rates pretty good.
Feedback as always if you'd like to discuss, the 1991 Review will be tommorow I'm almost done watching that PPV.
