I haven't seen it in a while, but I'll do my best.
Preshow Match: Austin Aries vs. Roderick Strong vs. Sonjay Dutt vs. Alex Shelley - This match was heavily praised when it first happened. Personally, I think the X Division multiman matches are good to have on a show are are fun to watch, but I don't find them particularly memorable. However, this one was better than most. I was actually a little surprised they left this on the preshow in favor of matches like Diamonds vs. Shark/Apolo/Siaki.
Opening Match; Samoa Joe vs. Jushin "Thunder" Liger: This was a really cool opener, and it really kicked off the PPV with a bang. I love it whenever TNA uses somebody like Liger, Tanahashi, or Tiger Mask. If used in special occasions, it can really add a little bit of a flavor to the PPV. Many people trashed it because the match was too short, but a short match does not equal a bad match. It was good, faced paced, and action packed, and it was the perfect choice to open with.
Diamonds in the Rough vs. Shark Boy/Apolo/Sonny Siaki: Pretty much filler match, and there isn't anything wrong with that. It was solid. Nothing more.
Monty Brown vs. Lance Hoyt: This was a pretty good power match. I remember Monty showcasing a little bit of technical ability in this one. Good solid match back from a time when they let Hoyt work on PPVs regularly (check out his match with Abyss from Unbreakable. Very good)
3LK vs. Team Canada - I think TNA did this match like a 100 times. Wasn't really a big fan of 3LK so I probably didn't like the match that much, but it continued the storyline involving Kip James, which to be fair was actually pretty interesting.
Petey vs. Sabin vs. Bentley: Ultimate X - The match was going good up until the finish where the Red X fell from the cables. Petey caught it and was declared the winner, and he looked pissed off. Now, had Petey played the heel right and sold it like it was the greatest victory of his career, that would have made the ending awesome. But thats what happens when you don't learn how to improvise. Definately the worst UX match, but the rematch on Impact (which is included on the DVD) is better.
AMW vs. The Naturals: Tag Titles - Pretty good tag team title match. These two teams were probably the top teams TNA had to offer at the time, and they always had great matches together, so it seemed Natural to pair them up at BFG. This isn't as good as thier classic at Hard Justice 2005, but still pretty good tag team action.
Hardy vs. Rhino vs. Abyss vs. Sabu: Monster's Ball - This match was insane! This wa a crazy and hardcore spotfest that just didn't let up. Very fun to watch, and sure to entertain. Not only did the match provide great action, but it also started Rhino's big push for the night, and that really helped out the main event.
AJ Styles vs. Christopher Daniels: Ironman Match for X Title - We go from Hardcore insanity to straight up wrestling from two of the best. While not quite at the level of their first Ironman match from Against All Odds (few matches are to be fair), this was still a very good contest and definately my pick for Match of the Night.
Main Event:
Now the main event was originally supposed to be Kevin Nash vs. Jeff Jarrett, but that was stopped when Nash pulled out due to a health scare a few days earlier. The end result actually turned out better than that match would have IMO.
A 10 Man Gauntlet to decide who would face Jarrett was held. TNA's Top Talent was involved: AJ, Joe, Monty, Hardy, Abyss, Rhino, Sabu, and Killings. Other participants included Hoyt and Kip James. All of these guys (except for Kip) had wrestled before earlier in the night, so whoever won was already put at a disadvantage when it came time to face Jarrett. Much to my surprise, Rhino won the match, making the main event Rhino vs. Jarrett for the World title.
Jarrett vs. Rhino: World Title: Rhino won Monster's Ball, a very violent and brutal match. He then survived to win the Gauntlet. By the time this match started, Rhino was helpless, and as a result, he went from being a heel to being the sympathetic babyface instantly. That came off really well. Jarrett dominated the weakened Rhino with ease, but Rhino was able to hit the Gore out of nowhere and score the big win! This match was really short, but made perfect sense giving the circumstances. Oh, Tito Ortiz was the referee, but nobody seemed to care.
The ending of the show saw Jarrett, AMW, and Team Canada getting thier asses kicked by Rhino, 3LK, and the returning Team 3D, who suffered a huge beating from AMW a few weeks prior. Eric Young then got shoved into a casket that Jarrett set up for Rhino (he claimed he was going to bury him) and the show ended with the faces celebrating with the new Champion Rhino as the fans went crazy.
As far as matches go, there are some pretty good ones on this show. AJ/Daniels, Monster's Ball, Joe/Liger, X 4 Way (which is included on the DVD despite only being on the preshow), AMW/Nats and to a lesser degree Monty/Hoyt were all pretty good. The only major bust was Ultimate X. However, what really made the show was the way they handled Rhino's push. That was extreme well done given the circumstances of it coming about, and really gave the main event an exciting feel.
There were no MOTYCs on here, but it didn't matter. The energy of the show was very good, and in this case, the sum was definately greater than the parts. I walked away from the show feeling pretty damn good, and that's what matters.
Hoped that review helped.
