Hi! I haven't watched WWE since about 2005. As I've said in my posts, the "sports entertainment" of the WWE exploits wrestling as a medium to present a soap opera complete with music, fireworks, and all sorts of crap. The wrestling is secondary to the dramas and intrigues of the story line being presented at any given time.
Back in the territorial days the wrestling was the main thing and everything else was merely a prop to enhance the battle in the ring. Today the wrestling is just the backdrop for the rest of the circus being presented.
The WWE appeals to a whole different fan base today. I am not saying that there are no wrestling fans watching the WWE. However, quite frankly, most of the fans of WWE are not wrestling fans per se. I don't know how to describe them.
Vince McMahon, Sr. should probably be nicknamed "Pinwheel McMahon," because he is probably spinning in his grave right now because of what his son did to pro-wrestling.
