Re: My Random Thoughts On Hip-Hop
OK som body took down my thread.. But
Again and again on Encore, the rapper challenges himself just to keep things interesting. Allow me to illustrate: Disguised by its childish title, "Big Weenie" is actually the album's most forceful flip-off. When Em (purposefully) messes up a line in the verses, he gives haters what they want, then immediately snatches it away. "I fucked up (pause)/Psyche! I'm kidding again, you idiot." Shady proves his airtight flow throughout. Even his mistakes hug the beat.
"My First Single" continues the self-defeating self-justification. In this case, the rapper ruins a promising beat with burp noises, but it's more than simple potty talk. For any other artist, the hook would mean solid gold, but Eminem proves he's good enough to just throw it away. And you'll probably still like it.
Unlike his first three records, Encore isn't named after any of Em's aliases, yet its combination of vulgarity and virtuosity makes it the most accurate reflection of the real Slim Shady to date. Perhaps that's why Em creates yet another identity, calling himself "Rain Man" in the track of the same name. He's a genius not with cards but with rhymes.
