I can't see how this would be controversial or earn your contempt if a white boxer had said "I don't like n****rs" then WWE had said they proudly endorse them in a fight. Darren was foolish in not knowing more about Manny but that is not why most people were attacking him, they just painted him as a troublemaker which is disgusting. We all get it with race but sexuality? It's not like anyone stole his private thought, he chose to express his disgust towards gays yet he's getting the "respect his opinion" treatment more than Young saying "I don't support him because of that"
I know how I'd feel if my workplace said "we're proud to support [racist boxer]", I don't think it's hard to empaphise; I swear you'd think he grabbed the mic at the boxing venue and went on a rant. Look at the company you're in - in 40 years people will say "and they were maligned for criticising bigots? What a fucked up society it was back then" and they'll be right.
