Can WWE and Triple H please stop saying he was buried after the MSG curtain call!!

Being put on tv and having ppv matches isn't what a burial truly is now granted taking The KOTR away is the closest if that was even any truth to that. And please don't say he had hog pin matches because they were still on ppv and the fued with Henry Godwin got tv time.

If you want a true burial look at how Vader was treated the last year of his run now it was his fault in part by not losing the weight and refusing to wash his wrestling gear as a sing of good luck. But he was dominated by Kane, reduced to shotgun newyork(or superstars) and lost cleanly to edge his last match.

Re: Can WWE & HHH stop making it seem he was demoted to jobber after Hall and Nash le

I've heard more than once that Austin's megapush was supposed to be HHH's. He was clearly demoted and punished for his part in the MSG incident.
Austin's didn't get a megapush though. By Summerslam 96 he was still doing the free-for all with Yokozuna. The reason Austin took off was because his brash attitude mixed perfectly well with a returning Bret Hart. Coupled with the fact that Hart pushed really hard to work with him, it was just immaculate timing for Austin.

Could you picture HBK vs Hunter Heart Helmsley headlining Summerslam 96? Yeah, that would've really been a must watch.

Wait, you say being on TV and PPV matches isn't a burial but you call Vader's last year a burial? And to somewhat justify your Vader mention, you talk about matches he lost?

I mean, if you admit it was Vader's fault for not losing weight, how is that anything but a self caused burial? Oh, he should continue to be pushed, despite not wanting to be in shape. On top of that, it wasn't like he was in the midst of a big push. Vader was last relevant to WWE angles in the summer of 1997 and that was debatable because he was a substitute in a title match for Ahmed Johnson. Vader's downward spiral began in 1996, if anything. But based on what people who worked there at that time have said, I don't see any time frame after November 1996 where Vader would have been given more than he got, because he was supposed to win the belt at Survivor Series '96, dropped it 2 months later at the Rumble and assuming all other plans came to fruition, wasn't really wrote in for anything much more. And that probably led to him not giving a fuck but I still don't see that as a burial, considering he put it on himself and considering your opinion on it that his final year saw him be buried, he was headed down that road since late 1996. But, what admitted super push did that "burial" strip away from him?

I shouldn't have to explain HHH's situation, the pushed he missed out on and everything that became of it. Because HHH lost what seemed like a cemented opportunity. Vader didn't have that, especially in his final year, considering the closest he was placed in a top tier angle was early 1997 and was overshadowed by Austin/Bret and rightfully so.

I don't see how being put on tv can be seen as a burial along wit getting a tittle with in that year if what he did was so bad why would they even feature him on tv. And I used Vader as an example cause much like hhh he was on tv but around 98 he was losing to Kane dominantly

hhh getting the push austin got would've ruined the company LOL that would've been TERRIBLE
"Talk about your Psalms, talk about John 3:16. Hunter 3:16 says I just whipped your ass." He would bow as his classical music plays and the WWF would immediately go out of business.

Did you watch Mania 12? I'm not sure it was after they left cause I think hall was on the poster, but either way Hunter looked like a bitch.

Wrestlemania 12 was in March. Hall and Nash left in May.

Re: Can WWE & HHH stop making it seem he was demoted to jobber after Hall and Nash le

I wouldn't say he was completely buried, he just lost out on a big opportunity and took a bunch of losses for the next few months. By October he'd won the IC Title and then started his feud with Goldust, in which he won every important match.

Re: Can WWE & HHH stop making it seem he was demoted to jobber after Hall and Nash le

Yes, he was buried for a while. Everyone says that the 1996 King Of The Ring was his to lose. You have to wonder how much quicker Trips would have gotten into the main event scene had he been KOTR in 1996, also if he's a main eventer by 1997, do we get DX?

Re: Can WWE & HHH stop making it seem he was demoted to jobber after Hall and Nash le

The Ultimate Warrior made him look like a bum 2 months BEFORE the curtain call incident.

Losing to Sid, Roberts, Mero and Windham was not that bad by comparison. Most of the jobs were not clean defeats.

Re: Can WWE & HHH stop making it seem he was demoted to jobber after Hall and Nash le

Well, I always thought this was strange claiming Triple H was buried and had to job for everyone for a year due to the Curtain call.

Because at that time, he won the IC title, which at the time meant something. Sure he got left out from the KOTR, IYH (In July)Summer Slam and Mind Games PPV, but he still had meaningful storylines, not the main event ones, but still had storylines, way better than Aldo Montoya and a bunch of other guys in the lockerroom. He did this thing with Mero, Henry Goodwinn and others, so sure he probalby jobbed to everyone in the first three months both on TV and on the houseshow circutit, but after that he was still involved in storylines and won titles of significance.

Re: Can WWE & HHH stop making it seem he was demoted to jobber after Hall and Nash le

It was not nearly as big a punishment as good ol' Hunter would like to have everyone believe. It's WWE revisionist history striking again. As others have mentioned, he won the IC title just a few months later. The only real big demotion for him was not winning KOTR 1996. But to hear Triple H tell it, you'd think he was held back for years.

Yeah I kind of agree, but he also got left of the PPV's until Ocotber, which meant less pay for him as well.

He kept losing matches for months until he beat Marc Mero. It wasn't that bad of a punishment really since he was still on TV.

Yeah I kind of agree here too.

To sum this up:

Triple H was feuding with Razor who was a mega star in WWF at the time, beating him on PPV's and at hosuseshows and was supposed to win the King Of The Ring. Directly after the infamous Curtain Call, HHH immediately got demoted to do jobs to newcomer Marc Mero on the road, and his supposedly KOTR win was instead given to Austin.

Match-wise:
66 losses on TV and houseshows
1 Draw against Aldo Montoya (On RAW)
6 wins (4 wins against jobbers on Superstars, while the other 2 wins were at houseshows against JBL and Freddie Joe Floyd)

This meant that he basically jobbed for 5 months before he was given th IC belt, who still at the timea meant something. But in order to not be too forgotten and somewhat relevatn, he was kept on TV, but off PPV's in order to make him stay fairly relevant. But his slow build towards the IC belt started in mid August already with a feud with Mr Perfect. So basically he was totally buried for the first 3 months, but started to get relevant storylines the last two months despite losing.

so yeah, he got buried, but there were still wrestlers who were considered as not being buried but still were kept off TV even more than Hunter - guys like Bob Holly. As for the claims Hunter make about being buried for a year are just bullshit. Sure he did not get the Brock Lesnar push when winning the IC title, but he was still considered to be in fairly relevant storylines belonging to upper mid-card

Re: Can WWE & HHH stop making it seem he was demoted to jobber after Hall and Nash le

He had it in his mind that because he was HBK's luggage handler that he was going straight to the main event after a year. He wasn't even remotely close to being ready and their program would've been awful.

Re: Can WWE & HHH stop making it seem he was demoted to jobber after Hall and Nash le

Triple H never said it.

He said that it wasn't like sometime after it he was called to the office and was told that he's not buried anymore.

Therefore... He was buried until October.

Re: Can WWE & HHH stop making it seem he was demoted to jobber after Hall and Nash le

Honestly it was probably a good thing for HHH that he didn't get pushed to the main event till 1999, he probably would've failed in 1997. Him being 2nd banana to HBK he was able to be a part of DX with Shawn and then when Shawn got hurt he got the chance to take over the stable. And he was able to work several matches with Mankind and The Rock in some really good ladder and cage type matches that prepared him for the main event prior to going all the way to the top.

Re: Can WWE & HHH stop making it seem he was demoted to jobber after Hall and Nash le

Triple H really did get the shit-end of the stick with the whole curtain call thing. The horrible thing is supposedly Vince was okay with it (to a certain degree), but it was all of the douchebag stooges (one being Bruch Pritchard) who were in Vince's ear about how it was such an insult to the business. Which is ridiculous considering it was on a freakin' house-show and therefore wouldn't air. But everything happens for a reason and it worked out for all of them, so, whatever.

Re: Can WWE & HHH stop making it seem he was demoted to jobber after Hall and Nash le

As long as he got to do the "Stone Cold" character, Austin would've still been the top star with or without King of the Ring. May not have had the Austin 3:16 catchphrase, so the WWF might have lost out on some good t-shirt sales.

Re: Can WWE & HHH stop making it seem he was demoted to jobber after Hall and Nash le

It's easy to say he wasn't buried when he bounced back and became one of the most notable names in Wrestling history - but imagine if DX never came around for him and he fizzled out as a nobody. You could be here in 2013 saying "Anyone remember that Blue Blood Hunter Hearst Helmsley guy? They buried him after the curtain call incident when he had huge potential!"

Given he was Shawn's pal though and was taking the punishment as the only guy available that could actually take the wrap for the incident - I doubt it was ever meant to truly hold him down, just teach him a lesson (wasn't he IC Champion like half a year later?).

And I do believe there's a Taker quote where he said how much of a selfish guy HHH seemed when he came in, but then he got punished for the MSG thing and took it like a man rather than whinging or complaining and earned some respect for it.

Vader on the other hand had flopped and was leaving, so it was standard Vince operating procedure to make him look horrible on his way to pastures new, that IS a true burial. Not a procedure he stuck to with Hall and Nash so much, but then we know why that is.

HHH went and apologised to everyone...

...then went on to make light of it on international TV a year later. His seeming sincerity got him off the hook with most but he has always come across as a two-faced coward during that period.

HHH was so good he stood as someone special whether he got buried or not
Without the mega push, HHH is upper midcard at best.

If it's true that Austin got HHH's KOTR win in '96, then it was best for BOTH of them. For Austin it was perfect timing, but also HHH because in 1997 he ended up in a great feud with Foley, which got him over big time. The year before, it would have just been Marc Mero or Ahmed Johnson and I doubt he would have gotten over the same. Worked out best for both.

HHH was pretty much had Cena's spot before Cena was in the company - he got a massive life long push that has got him over with a certain percentage of the fan base, but most people recognize the guy really isn't good enough to warrant it, and other wrestlers get held down in the process, guys that could potentially make money. The worst part about him is that people think that every match of his is a classic despite 90% of the time most of those classics just involve him throwing punches.
