given the opening scene where he said he doesn't known why he does the things he does + him being generally impulsive I don't find it a stretch it didn't take much to change his mind.
Herschel is dead next episode. Hence the whole "I know what it means to now", speech. Small chance Glenn dies but I think maggie might be safe now *fingers crossed*
It'd be weird if more than 1 one Glenn/Maggie/herschel died, though.
Thought this episode was very good by the way. One of the strongest of the season, definitely.
