What's the dumbest excuse a wrestler came up with to justify his or her actions?
The most recent one has to be Taz, saying he joined Aces and 8s because: "how could I pass up the opportunity to live by the vision of a higher power?!"
Well if that's what you want isn't that what religion and cults are for? No you have to betray your best fried because someone who claims to be a "higher power" offered you the opportunity to follow him? What dumb ass logic is this? I know we should suspend out belief but this is just absurd.
What are your most absurd illogical excuses heard in pro wrestling?
Kane attacking Randy Orton last year leading to a match between them at WrestleMania 28 because of a hand-shake between them after a Street Fight they had on Smackdown last Summer at the time.
Antonio Cesaro, a foreigner, loving the country of America but hating the people.
Jack Swagger, an American, hating the country of America and loving the people.
Am I the only one that liked Rikishi being revealed as the driver that hit Austin? Granted they ruined it, but the initial reveal and the few weeks that followed were pretty solid to me.
He said he did it for The Rock AND his people. It was a racism storyline and he rationalized what he did by saying Rock wouldn't be as big as Austin if Austin was in the picture and he wanted one of his own to be the top guy, something that he feels was not allowed and prevented by wrestling promoters in the past.
Anyways, some that come to mind:
- Batista attacking Rey Mysterio because Rey didn't throw a match for him. Why would he expect Rey to let him win? What is he a three year old? Actually, I think the reasoning of Batista being jealous of Cena being treated like the top guy over him despite them becoming stars at the same time and Batista defeating him in 08 and the Royal Rumble were much more compelling reasons for a heel turn.
- Undertaker in 2001 = NOBODY RESPECTS ME!!! Uh...what? Pretty sure Taker was even at that point over a decade ago, one of the most respected guys in the biz among both wrestlers & fans. I am not sure what Taker was talking about really.
Edge's stupid heel turn after he returned as a face from a long injury, feuded with Orton until he got injured, attacked a laptop and then turned face again..
-It could have been the next big storyline and WWE messed it up badly
-Imagine if the attacker was revealed to be Hollywood Hogan who was jealous of Stone Cold's rising popularity. It would have taken WWE to a different level.
The higher power wasn't so bad. Vince hated Austin and was willing to do anything to cost him that belt and make his life hell. Even sacrificing his own daughter for this end. Once Austin lost the belt mission was accomplished and Vince revealed himself soon after. Yes of course there was a letdown, like we were back to square one. But we got the amazing swerve of Austin as CEO (one of my greatest mark out moments and happiest childhood ones too) and soon after the chapter of Austin vs McMahon was officially closed at Fully loaded.
Taker's 2001 heel turn made absolutely no sense rationale wise you're right. He was the most respected wrestler and to claim lack of respect was out of nowhere even kayfabe wise he was respected by the heels. He wore a shirt that said respected by all!
I think the story was that the Undertaker was 'paranoid' that people didn't respect him, as crazy as that is. Hornswoggle as the GM was pretty terrible. Or what about Vince McMahon coming back after being fired with no explanation recently.
Kurt Angle joining the Alliance in 2001 wasn't the worst, but looking back...yeah, it was pretty illogical. He joined for about a month just to fight team WWE at Survivor Series for 30+ minutes, then turned back to the WWE and it turned out it was all him going undercover to infiltrate the enemy. And for that matter, why did Austin himself join the Alliance anyway? I can't recall, wasn't it because Vince didn't appreciate him, he felt, despite how Vince treated him like royalty in previous months...
Goldberg turning heel because the fans never supported him. Meanwhile the next night on Nitro, they are screaming his name with signs. That had Russo written all over it. Classic BS.
How has nobody mentioned Kevin Nash attacking Punk? I can't even remember exactly what his rationale was it was so stupid, I think at some point he said wrestling wasn't cool or something like that (so he decided to attack Punk?)
Kane chokeslamming the Undertaker through the ring because "I am a monster". If I'm not mistaken, this led to a match between them at Summerslam 2001. This was obviously just thrown together and with their history, surely they could have thought of a better basis for them to feud again?
The whole AJ pairing with Dolph Ziggler... so AJ is upset with Cena so she's going to date the guy that was insulting her? lol, on top of that, they bring in Big E Langston, who helps attack Cena because he's friends with AJ... but then why wasn't he helping her out when Ziggler and Vicki were causing her problems?
Another example: When Garrett Bischoff formed a team so he could challenge his father, Eric's team, so he could win the right to be a main eventer. The fact that Garrett was leading a team with guys like RVD, who were big names probably before he was alive, and seeing those guys shake his hand on camera, was depressing lol.
