Re: Aliens: Colonial Marines.
There were two AvP games on PC, Alien 3 on SNES, AvP arcade, Aliens Infestation and a very underrated strategy game on PS2/Xbox that were all good.
Have you played AvP on the Atari Jaguar? It's hands down the best game on that system, and one of the first games to incorporate a non-linear RPS element through 3D gameplay. The graphics are very dated by today's standards, but back in 1994 it was cutting edge stuff. The branching outcomes depending on the character you choose, the computer log narrative, the map layout and sheer size of the landscape makes this game surprisingly deep for for it's time. The atmosphere is awesome as you'd expect from an AvP game. It's very reminiscent of the D&D roleplaying element, and very much a thinking game where you make the best use of your tools and analyse the environment as opposed to a straight up shoot em up like Doom. It's very similar to System Shock on MS-DOS, only System Shock didn't have the alternate Marine, Alien and Predator paths.
It's a very, very underrated and overlooked masterpiece. Probably due to the Atari Jaguar selling as much as double layered Sweatshirts in mid July.
