Up until the end of Starrcade 97 was Sting vs Hogan/NWO the best Storyline ever?

Sting vs Hulk Hogan/NWO might have been the best storyline of all time IMO. Only Austin vs McMahon rivals it (many here would say it's better but just stating my opinion).

Over a year buildup - Sting goin Crow, leaving in September 1996 not wrestling until December 97. During this time he was probably the most badass wrestler ever. He was over as hell showing up through the crowd, garnering monstrous reactions. Sting during this time was the most over man in wrestling bar none, and I'd say during this stretch he was one of the most over faces in history. Look it up if you don't believe it.

Hogan/NWO reign of dominance - Hogan being a great heel and holding on to that damn belt for basically over a year (sans a one week Luger reign). He acted scared against Sting. WCW needed a hero to stop the ultimate Villain and that was the NWO.

During this time the WWE was getting destroyed in ratings and almost had to close up shop. WCW was KILLING it during this time. WWE was FORCED to have it's A game and thus produced one of if not its best year ever in 1997.

Knockout punch was ready to be delivered when Starrcade 97 produced WCW's biggest buyrate and one of the most hyped matches of all time....

and they blew it and made a character they built for over a year as regaining his throne, to looking like he shouldn't have beaten Hogan.

The fact that Sting was the most popular wrestler around for over a year without wrestling and talking, nothing but action, and the great NWO heel faction dominating makes this one of the most well executed storylines in History IMO. Unfortunately the payoff couldn't seal the deal.
