I think this has got to be one of the most underrated WrestleMania's of all time. It had the MITB, Hardcore Match, Casket Match, Michaels/McMahon, Mysterio/Angle/Orton and Trips/Cena!
Definitely in the top 10 category when talking about WrestleMania's, what did you guys think of it?
I rate it fairly low. Not one of the better ones from this last decade. Felt HHH/Cena was slightly above average, the 3-way World Title bout was ridiculously short (9 minutes), and the only match that really delivered was Edge/Foley in the first half of the PPV.
I watched pretty sporadically between Wrestlemania 20 and 24. Personally I think Wrestlemania 21-23 were garbage. I have watched all three and they just didn't compare with previous years.
It was good for being a mix. There was something there for everyone. Sure there was a couple of completely unnecessary DUDS and booking errors (Henry/Taker for one) but it was still a highly enjoyable show.
I agree, me being a HBK mark and one who attended WM 22 I was most disappointed about him wasted on a WM card.
I know him and McMahon had a decent buildup but still. Also undertaker/angle should have really tooken place here as well..... But they also wasted him with mark Henry. A ok wrestlemania that could've been SO much better.
This was a really fun WM. Even though the main events have their flaws, they were still pretty good. The triple threat should have been longer, but I love the match for some reason. So fast paced and cool spots. The crowd made the main event watchable.
Very good show but so much wasted potential. Although it was an unfortunate set of circumstances that altered some plans such as Batista's injury and Eddie's death.
The one match that I would've booked in place of what actually happened would be Undertaker wrestling Chris Benoit. Nobody could have bought into Mark Henry as a legitimate threat no matter how much they pushed him and the match was a bore anyways. Benoit was also wasted in a forgettable midcard match with JBL. So what better way to utilize two of the top talents than in a match with each other. Could've been the greatest Mania match ever.
Triple Threat could have been a classic given 6 more minutes with the Playboy Pillowfight jettisoned.
It's a decent, but very forgettable show. Edge/Foley is the only match that sticks out. Oh, and Trish/Mickie was good as well. HBK/Vince is probably HBK's worst WM match, and it's not good. The triple threat World Title match was weak. The Cena/HHH main event was good, but weak for a Mania main event. Taker/Henry was mediocre. And the rest of the card I'm having trouble remembering.
I would've loved to have seen Taker/Benoit. Taker/Angle delivered a ***** classic at NWO the month prior that's arguably top 5 of all time in WWE. So I can only imagine what Taker/Benoit would've done on the big stage with 15-20 minutes. Would've been unreal. Taker was hitting his in-ring and was becoming one of the best workers in the company, maybe the best bar Benoit himself.
For some reason I didn't like it. I didn't care at all for the WWE in 2005-2006.
